To cancel an unused USPS, UPS, or FedEx label purchased on eBay, open Shipping Labels in Seller Hub or Manage shipping labels in My eBay, choose Cancel Label, select a reason, and send the request. eBay allows 28 days to request cancellation, but the carrier can take up to 21 days to approve or reject a refund.
Cancel a label from Seller Hub or My eBay
- Sign in to eBay and open Shipping Labels in Seller Hub or Manage shipping labels in My eBay. eBay’s label instructions cover both locations.
- Find the relevant order or label.
- In the Actions column, choose Cancel Label.
- Select the reason for cancellation.
- Choose Send request.
Deleting a downloaded or printed label file does not submit a cancellation request; use eBay’s label-management page. In the eBay app, its instructions direct sellers to Selling → Orders → select the order → Manage shipping → three-dot menu, then choose the relevant action. App menu wording may vary.
Which labels can be canceled, and when?
eBay’s currently available U.S.-facing guidance says unused USPS, UPS, and FedEx labels purchased on eBay can be submitted for cancellation within 28 days. This is eBay’s policy window, not a guarantee that the carrier will approve a refund. After you send the request, the carrier may take up to 21 days to approve or reject it.
- eBay Standard Envelope: eBay says a label cannot be canceled once printed.
- QR code scanned to print: If a participating drop-off point has scanned the QR code to print the label, eBay considers the label used and says it cannot be canceled.
- USPS SCAN form scanned: eBay says labels on a SCAN form will not receive credit if canceled after the form has been scanned.
What happens to the refund?
Cancellation is a request, not an immediate refund. eBay’s Help page says approved funds are credited to the original funding source, while its Seller Center FAQ says the label cost will be credited to the eBay account within 21 days. Because those official pages describe the destination differently, check the cancellation result and your account transaction record rather than assuming where the credit will appear.

If you still need to ship the order
If you cancel a label but still ship the order, use a valid label and add its tracking number to the eBay order. eBay says to add the new or correct tracking number as an additional tracking number when the canceled number will not be used. Do not rely on the canceled label’s tracking number for the shipment.
If the buyer wants a different shipping address
Changing the destination on a label is not the same as canceling the order. eBay warns that shipping to an address other than the one entered at checkout can remove seller protection under the Money Back Guarantee. Its guidance recommends canceling the transaction and asking the buyer to purchase again with the correct address. See eBay’s selling practices guidance before proceeding.

Check whether it is a Ship with eBay prepaid label
The 28-day process above is for purchased USPS, UPS, or FedEx labels. eBay gives different instructions for an eligible prepaid label in the Ship with eBay flow: it is valid for seven days, can be used only once, and eBay says sellers who decide not to use it do not need to cancel it. Confirm which label workflow you used before submitting a cancellation request.
