If the Apple Cash person-to-person payment is still pending, you can usually cancel it in Wallet. Open Wallet, tap Apple Cash, open the transaction, tap it again, and choose Cancel Payment. If the payment shows Sent or Completed, Apple does not provide a cancellation button; ask the recipient to return the money. For an unauthorized transaction or suspected fraud, secure your account and contact an Apple Cash Specialist at Green Dot Bank.
This guidance applies to Apple Cash users in the United States. The process is different for Apple Pay merchant purchases, Apple Services charges, Apple Store orders, and Apple Card transactions.

First, check the payment type and status
Before trying to get money back, determine whether you sent money to a person or paid a business. Then check the transaction status in Wallet:
- Open Wallet.
- Tap the Apple Cash card.
- Find and tap the transaction.
- Tap the transaction again to open its details.
- Read the status.

| Pending | The recipient has not accepted the person-to-person payment, and cancellation may still be available. | Look for Cancel Payment and act immediately. |
| Sent or Completed | The payment has generally been accepted or completed. | You normally cannot cancel it in Wallet. Ask the recipient to send it back. |

How to cancel a pending Apple Cash payment
- Open Wallet on your iPhone.
- Tap the Apple Cash card.
- Under the transaction history, tap the pending payment.
- Tap the payment again on the details screen.
- Tap Cancel Payment.
- Confirm if prompted.
The cancellation option generally disappears once the recipient accepts the payment, so do not wait if you recognize a mistake. A canceled transfer is returned to the applicable Apple Cash balance and/or debit card used to fund it. The money may not appear instantly; timing can depend on the funding source, bank, or card issuer. Apple’s Apple Cash terms describe refunds for unaccepted transfers.
If the payment is completed
A completed, authorized Apple Cash person-to-person payment usually cannot be undone through Wallet. Apple cannot simply reverse every payment that a sender later regrets, sends to the wrong person, or makes for goods or services that are never delivered.
Contact the recipient promptly and ask them to send the exact amount back. Keep the request in writing. Save the transaction record, messages, receipts, recipient details, and any evidence of deception.

If the recipient refuses, recovery is not guaranteed. Apple warns that money sent through Apple Cash for goods or services that are not received may not be recoverable. Do not assume that filing a bank chargeback is automatically appropriate for an authorized mistake. Apple Cash may restrict an account after a bank dispute or chargeback, so contact Apple Cash support and your financial institution promptly before taking that step.
If the recipient has not accepted the payment
A recipient generally has seven days to accept an Apple Cash payment. If it is not accepted within that period, Apple says the money automatically returns to the sender. Monitor both the Apple Cash transaction history and the original funding account; the reversal may not appear at the same instant everywhere.
This can apply when the recipient has not set up Apple Cash and is prompted to do so. Do not send a second payment while the first one is still pending.

If you sent money to the wrong person or a scammer
Accidental but authorized payment
If you approved the payment yourself, treat it as an authorized mistake: cancel it while it is pending, or ask the recipient to return it if it is completed. Apple does not promise recovery of completed authorized payments.

Stop communicating with the suspected scammer if continuing could expose more information. Preserve messages and transaction evidence, and report the incident to Apple Cash support. Do not pay a third party promising guaranteed recovery.
Apple recommends sending Apple Cash only to people you know. A person who claims to be Apple Support should not ask you to transfer money or disclose security codes. Use Apple’s official support pages rather than a phone number from a pop-up, unsolicited message, or search advertisement.

How to report an unauthorized Apple Cash transaction
Use this route when you did not make the payment and did not authorize someone else to use your device, Apple Account, or Wallet debit card:
- Secure your Apple Account and device. Change your Apple Account password if necessary and review account access.
- Check whether someone with access to your device, account, or debit card could have authorized the payment.
- Contact an Apple Cash Specialist at Green Dot Bank at 877-233-8552. Verify the number on Apple’s official transaction-support page before calling, because contact details can change.
- Provide the transaction date, amount, recipient, screenshots, and relevant messages.
- Follow the specialist’s investigation instructions.
Contact your financial institution promptly as appropriate, but understand that a bank chargeback can cause Apple Cash restrictions. Apple says an account may be restricted while an unauthorized-transaction dispute is handled. See Apple’s account-restriction guidance.
If it was an Apple Cash merchant purchase
The person-to-person Cancel Payment control does not cancel a purchase from a business. First identify whether the charge is pending or final:

- Pending authorization: For an incorrect pending merchant charge, Apple says to wait four business days for it to clear. Gas-station authorizations and restaurant tips can make the final amount differ from the initial pending amount.
- Completed legitimate purchase: Contact the merchant and follow its return or refund policy.
- Unrecognized purchase: Secure your Apple Account and contact an Apple Cash Specialist at Green Dot Bank for investigation.
If the Apple Cash balance was insufficient, part of the purchase may have been funded by a supported debit card. Check both the Apple Cash history and the debit-card statement.

An app, in-app purchase, subscription, media purchase, or other Apple-billed charge follows Apple’s Services refund process—not the Apple Cash cancellation process.
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in.
- Choose “I’d like to”, then select “Request a refund.”
- Choose a reason, select the purchase, and submit the request.
- Check the claim status at the same website.
Apple says it may take up to 48 hours to provide an update. If approved, a refund to Apple Cash, Apple Pay, a debit card, or another payment method may take up to 30 days to appear. Details are in Apple’s guides to requesting a refund and checking refund status.
If it was an Apple Store, Apple Card, or bank transfer
- Apple Store order: Use the order’s cancellation, return, or refund options and contact Apple Store support for delivery or product issues. An Apple Cash Specialist may help with a payment-transaction issue, but cannot necessarily cancel the underlying order.
- Apple Card transaction: Use Apple Card support and its separate dispute process. Do not use the Apple Cash Specialist workflow merely because the merchant used Apple branding. See Apple’s Apple Card dispute guidance.
- Transfer to a bank or debit card: This is different from a pending person-to-person Apple Cash payment. The Wallet cancellation steps do not make a completed bank transfer reversible.
When “Cancel Payment” is missing
The recipient may already have accepted the payment, the transaction may no longer be pending, or it may not be a person-to-person Apple Cash transfer. Other possibilities include a temporary security hold, account review, device problem, or a Wallet status that has not refreshed.
- Check the transaction again after restarting the device.
- Install the latest available iOS or iPadOS update.
- Complete any identity-verification request shown in Wallet.
- Check whether Apple Cash is restricted, locked, or under review.
- Contact an Apple Cash Specialist if no self-service option appears.
An account review can take up to two business days, according to Apple. A restricted or locked account may be unable to send or receive money, add funds, transfer money, or make Apple Pay purchases.
Apple Cash, Apple Pay, and Apple Card are not the same

Useful Apple Cash limits
Limits are not part of the cancellation process, but they can explain a failed or delayed transaction. Apple currently lists a verified Apple Cash balance limit of $20,000, standard send/receive limits of up to $10,000 per message and $10,000 in a rolling seven-day period. Apple Cash Family and Tap to Cash limits are lower—up to $2,000 per message and $2,000 in a rolling seven-day period. Limits may be reduced or blocked for security reasons.
