Disclosed plans combine different mixes of periodic cash bonuses, annual profit-sharing, company or group performance measures, and individual eligibility rules. A stated target is not automatically guaranteed: the written plan may give the company discretion, and payouts can fall below target or be zero.
What employee bonus structures have semiconductor companies disclosed?
Public filings show several distinct designs. These examples are company-specific, cover different years and employee populations, and should not be treated as a standardized market benchmark.
| Company and plan example | Structure described | Key qualifications |
|---|---|---|
| TSMC | Quarterly business performance bonuses plus profit-sharing based on annual results. | Amounts depend on operating results and domestic industry practice; committee recommendations go to the board for approval. TSMC 2024 annual report. |
| Microchip Technology | Employee Cash Bonus Plan (ECBP), with a disclosed target expressed as a portion of base salary. | Subject to financial performance, committee discretion, and attendance and performance requirements. Microchip 2025 proxy statement. |
| Texas Instruments | Profit-sharing paid in addition to an annual performance bonus. | The cited operating-margin schedule describes the 2023 formula, not a current industry rule. TI 2024 proxy statement. |
| Intel | Annual cash-bonus plan metrics included revenue, gross margin percentage, operating expense, and group goals. | These metrics describe Intel’s 2025 plan; applicability depends on the employee group and plan terms. Intel 2025 proxy statement. |
| Synaptics | Fiscal 2026 plan using equally weighted revenue, non-GAAP gross margin percentage, and non-GAAP operating profit. | This is a company- and fiscal-year-specific example. Synaptics fiscal 2026 proxy statement. |
How are semiconductor employee bonuses calculated?
A plan may combine company results with group or individual performance, but the measures and their weight vary. TSMC describes bonuses tied to operating results and says individual rewards are based on job responsibility, contributions, and performance. Intel’s 2025 annual cash-bonus metrics included revenue, gross margin percentage, operating expense, and group goals. Synaptics’ fiscal 2026 plan used three equally weighted financial measures: revenue, non-GAAP gross margin percentage, and non-GAAP operating profit. Those plans illustrate different approaches; they do not establish a common formula across semiconductor employers.
The plan name alone does not reveal the calculation. “Bonus” can refer to a periodic cash award, while “profit-sharing” may be a separate award linked to company profitability. Texas Instruments, for example, described profit-sharing as additional to an annual performance bonus.

What do the disclosed targets and formulas mean?
Microchip: a target subject to discretion
Microchip’s 2025 proxy statement described an ECBP target of 2.5 days of base salary per quarter, equivalent to two weeks of annual base salary. The committee may set eligibility and targets and pay more or less than target. Attendance and performance requirements also apply, so the target should not be read as a guaranteed payment.
The company reported that no ECBP bonuses were paid in any quarter of fiscal 2025 because of adverse business conditions. That result is a specific historical example of how a stated target can differ from an actual payout.

TSMC: periodic awards and annual profit-sharing
TSMC’s 2024 annual report describes quarterly cash bonuses and profit-sharing based on annual profits. It says the programs are intended to reward employee contributions and align employee and shareholder interests. Amounts depend on operating results and domestic industry practice, and committee recommendations are submitted to the board for approval.
The same report says that, if TSMC is profitable for the year, at least 1% of annual profits is allocated as employee compensation under the company’s articles and bonus policy. This is TSMC’s stated allocation provision; it is not a promise that each employee receives a particular percentage of salary or a uniform amount.

Texas Instruments: a historical operating-margin schedule
TI’s 2024 proxy statement describes a profit-sharing formula for 2023 based on operating profit margin. Under that historical schedule, a margin below 10% produced no profit-sharing; at 10%, the award was 2% of base salary. Above 10%, the percentage rose with each margin point according to the disclosed schedule. The available details do not support treating this as TI’s current formula or as a semiconductor-industry standard.
Who qualifies, and what can change an award?
Eligibility can be as important as the headline target. Microchip said all full-time employees worldwide participate in its ECBP, while also describing committee-set eligibility and attendance and performance requirements. TSMC says individual rewards reflect job responsibility, contributions, and performance. These examples do not establish that every employee, location, role, or employment status at either company receives the same award.

Before relying on a stated figure, establish whether it is a target, a formula result, or a guaranteed contractual payment. Check the applicable plan document for performance period, payout timing, eligibility, caps, discretion, and the consequences of joining or leaving during the period. Public proxy statements may summarize a plan without giving every employee-level condition.

- Identify the award type: annual or quarterly cash bonus, profit-sharing, equity award, or a combination.
- Find the performance measures: company, group, and individual targets may all matter; ask how each is weighted.
- Clarify certainty: determine whether the number is discretionary, formula-based, capped, or guaranteed in writing.
- Check timing: confirm the performance period and expected payout date.
- Verify eligibility: ask whether location, job family, attendance, performance rating, or time in role changes participation or payout.
- Separate employee and executive terms: named-executive compensation in a proxy statement is not a reliable stand-in for ordinary employee pay.
- Confirm the year and governing document: a disclosed formula from an earlier plan year may have changed; check the current plan and local terms that apply to the offer.
What public disclosures can—and cannot—tell employees
Company filings can show plan types, performance measures, discretion, and selected eligibility conditions. They do not provide a comparable employee-level dataset across employers, job roles, and countries. As a result, these disclosures cannot establish a universal semiconductor bonus percentage or a reliable employee-level market range. For an individual offer, the controlling information is the current written plan and the employer’s terms for the employee’s location and role.
