There is no reliable, current public figure that establishes Tom Wagner’s personal net worth or the combined wealth of Birmingham City’s controlling owners. That means Birmingham cannot be ranked confidently against the Championship’s wealthiest clubs by owner wealth. The available figures show reported spending on the club and estimates for other owners, but those are different measures and should not be treated as a like-for-like comparison.
Who owns Birmingham City?
BBC Sport reported on 7 November 2025 that Shelby Companies Limited (SCL), a US-based subsidiary of Knighthead Capital Management, acquired the remaining 51.1% of shares in Birmingham City. SCL then controlled 96.64% of Birmingham City Limited, which owns the men’s club and the women’s team. Knighthead was co-founded by Birmingham chairman Tom Wagner, and NFL figure Tom Brady was also a minority investor. BBC Sport
The corporate chain matters when discussing wealth. SCL’s control of Birmingham City Limited does not mean Wagner personally owns the whole company, and assets associated with Knighthead are not automatically his personal assets. The club’s controlling ownership and Wagner’s individual net worth are separate questions.
What do Birmingham’s investment figures show?
BBC Sport reported that Birmingham’s owners had spent between £20 million and £25 million on stadium improvements. That is reported investment in the club, not a measure of what Wagner or any other investor is personally worth. BBC Sport

The same report described a proposed £3 billion East Birmingham Sports Quarter, with a planned 62,000-seat stadium that was hoped to open by 2030. The £3 billion figure describes the projected scale or cost of a development plan; it is not proof that the money has already been spent, nor a valuation of the owners’ personal assets. The stadium capacity and opening date are plans and targets, not completed facts. BBC Sport
How do reported estimates for other Championship owners compare?
A secondary compilation of English club ownership lists gives estimated wealth of $2.6 billion for Bristol City owner Stephen Lansdown and $3.5 billion for the Srivaddhanaprabha family associated with Leicester City. The list does not provide a sufficiently clear date or methodology to make those estimates a reliable apples-to-apples ranking. The family figure is also not directly comparable to an individual’s personal net worth. Secondary ownership compilation

| Owner or group | Reported figure | What the figure represents and its limits |
|---|---|---|
| Tom Wagner / Birmingham City’s controlling ownership | No comparable verified figure established | The sources reviewed do not establish a current, independently verified personal net worth for Wagner or a comparable combined valuation of Knighthead’s ownership group. Source assessment |
| Stephen Lansdown / Bristol City | $2.6 billion | An undated estimate in a secondary compilation; not established as a verified current valuation. Secondary ownership compilation |
| Srivaddhanaprabha family / Leicester City | $3.5 billion | An undated family-wealth estimate in the same secondary compilation; not directly comparable to an individual net worth. Secondary ownership compilation |
These estimates can illustrate that billion-dollar figures circulate for some owners, but they do not establish that Lansdown or the Srivaddhanaprabha family is richer than Wagner or Knighthead. Without a reliable, dated figure for Birmingham’s controlling ownership and consistent measures for every person or group, a precise ranking would overstate what is known.
Why club accounts do not answer the owners’ net worth
Companies House lists Birmingham City Football Club Limited’s most recent accounts as covering the year to 30 June 2025; its filing history records that full accounts were filed on 4 April 2026. Companies House

Those accounts can inform readers about the club’s own financial position, but they are not personal balance sheets for Wagner, Brady, or other investors. Club spending, company liabilities, proposed development costs and an owner’s personal wealth are distinct measures.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can be concluded about Birmingham’s place among wealthy owners?
The evidence supports a limited conclusion: Birmingham’s owners have made reported stadium investments and proposed a major development, while some other Championship owners have widely circulated wealth estimates. It does not support saying that Wagner or Knighthead is richer or poorer than any particular rival owner. A current, independently verified personal net worth for Wagner, or a comparable valuation of the combined controlling group, is not established by the sources cited here.
