Burnley and Leeds United, not the 18 clubs already in the Premier League, are the main beneficiaries of their promotion for the 2025/26 season. The available figures do not establish a final combined promotion windfall for the pair—or a special payment to other clubs triggered by their arrival. Premier League central income is shared among all member clubs, with some portions varying by league position and live UK television coverage.
Do existing Premier League clubs get extra money when Burnley and Leeds are promoted?
There is no identified promotion-triggered bonus paid to the other Premier League clubs. The league distributes broadcast and central commercial income among its members under a formula. As a result, Burnley and Leeds gain access to Premier League distributions, while the other clubs continue to receive their ordinary shares.
Those shares are not all identical. Clubs receive equal portions of certain UK and international broadcast and central commercial income, while merit payments depend on final league position and UK facility fees depend on how often a club is selected for live UK broadcasts. The Premier League says it offers “no specific prize fund for winning the competition”; its merit scale pays the champions 20 times the basic merit payment, descending to one times that amount for the team finishing bottom. How much will Burnley and Leeds receive?
No final, comparable 2025/26 central-payment totals for Burnley and Leeds are established in the available figures, and there is no promotion-specific estimate covering both clubs. Their eventual income will depend on the applicable central distributions and, for variable components, their league positions and live broadcast selections. Promotion can also affect matchday and commercial income, but the figures below should not be mistaken for a forecast of their next-season earnings.

Burnley’s figures are historical, not a promotion payout
Burnley’s official strategic report for the year ended 31 July 2025 records turnover of £71.7 million, down from £133.6 million. The club played in the Championship during that accounting period and said the fall reflected its lower broadcasting distributions there. These figures describe the season in which Burnley earned promotion, not revenue received because it returned to the Premier League.
Leeds’ figures also cover its Championship promotion season
Leeds reported turnover of £136.8 million and a loss of £49.1 million for 2024/25, the financial year covering its Championship promotion campaign. Those are the club’s reported results for that period, not a measure of Premier League income in 2025/26.

Leeds’ prior accounts illustrate how league status can affect finances: between the years ended June 2023 and June 2024, turnover fell from £190 million to £128 million, while central distributions fell from £94.1 million to £51.0 million. Those historical changes are not the value of Leeds’ 2025 promotion uplift.
A previous Burnley payment is not a promotion bonus
The Premier League’s 2024/25 annual report lists a £110.1 million central payment to Burnley. That was for an earlier season when Burnley competed in the Premier League before relegation; it was not triggered by the club’s subsequent promotion.

Why headline promotion estimates do not answer this year’s question
Deloitte’s often-cited May 2024 estimate concerned the winner of the Leeds United–Southampton promotion contest for the 2024/25 Premier League season. It projected at least £140 million in additional revenue over three seasons, potentially more than £305 million if the promoted club avoided relegation in its first Premier League season. Deloitte described the estimate as covering increased matchday, broadcast and commercial revenue, and noted that both finalists were due parachute payments if they stayed in the Championship. It is neither a fresh estimate for Leeds’ 2025 promotion nor an estimate for Burnley.
A separate Deloitte analysis published in May 2026 estimated at least £205 million over three seasons, potentially about £365 million if the promoted club stayed up. That estimate concerned a different promotion cohort, and neither finalist was receiving parachute payments. It should not be applied to Burnley or Leeds, whose promotion histories and payment circumstances differ.

- OFFICIAL PREMIER LEAGUE DESIGN: Licensed ball for the 25/26 season featuring a high-visibility graphic inspired by nights under the lights.
- SEAMLESS FUSION CONSTRUCTION: No visible seams for superior durability, shape retention, and reduced water absorption.
- TRUE FLIGHT PERFORMANCE: Equal-surface-area panel design keeps the ball round and ensures consistent rebound and accurate trajectory.
- RESPONSIVE POWER: Foam layer provides lively rebound and striking force while maintaining a controlled, soft touch.
- RELIABLE PERFORMANCE: Rubber bladder with PUMA Air Lock valve preserves air for consistent bounce, backed by FIFA Quality standards.
These estimates are multi-year projections of incremental revenue under specific cohort and survival assumptions. They are not the same as a club’s total turnover or a confirmed one-season central payment. Deloitte’s 2026 annual review reported £6.8 billion in aggregate Premier League revenue for 2024/25, up 8%, and forecast more than £7 billion in 2025/26 as a new broadcast-rights uplift took effect. That league-wide context does not specify what either promoted club will receive.

What to look for in the clubs’ next financial figures
- Central distributions: distinguish equal-share components from merit payments and UK facility fees, which vary by league position and live broadcast selections.
- Total turnover: this includes more than central distributions, so it is not a direct measure of promotion-related income.
- Time period: Burnley and Leeds’ 2024/25 accounts cover their Championship promotion season, not their Premier League return.
- Projection versus result: multi-year promotion estimates depend on assumptions such as first-season survival and the comparison clubs’ parachute-payment status.
