The two 2013 reports differ on the wage after his new deal: The Guardian gave £14,000 a week, while The Independent later described it as £15,000. They are contemporary reports, not a basis for asserting a more precise figure.
Was £40,000 a week his confirmed wage?
Not on the evidence in the cited reporting. The Independent described around £40,000 a week as the amount in West Brom’s offer of a five-year contract. It does not establish that Berahino accepted the offer or was paid that amount. The most accurate answer is therefore that West Brom reportedly offered him around £40,000 a week in 2014—not that this was a verified wage he earned.
