Re:

How Much Is the $500,000 Ford GT Worth Today?

The $500,000 figure was an estimated tested price for a 2017 Ford GT. Hagerty’s 2026 valuations and sales show why current values vary by model year, condition and transaction.

The $500,000 figure refers to an estimated tested price for a new 2017 Ford GT—not its exact base MSRP or its value today. For a sense of the modern car’s current market, Hagerty’s October 2026 guide lists a 2018 Ford GT in #3 Good condition at $788,000, with a range of $771,000 to $799,667. Actual sales can be much higher, so the right figure depends on the model year, condition and the specific transaction.

What did the $500,000 Ford GT originally cost?

For the second-generation Ford GT, built for model years 2017 through 2022, $500,000 was MotorTrend’s estimated price as tested for a 2017 model. The listed base MSRP was $453,750, a figure also reported by Car and Driver. The tested price is an estimate, not an exact purchase receipt, and neither figure describes the car’s current value. MotorTrend’s 2017 test and Car and Driver’s 2017 Ford GT review provide the original-price context.

What is a modern Ford GT worth today?

A representative guide estimate is Hagerty’s October 2026 valuation for a 2018 Ford GT in #3 Good condition: a displayed value of $788,000, within a stated range of $771,000 to $799,667. This is a condition-specific estimate, not a promised sale price. See Hagerty’s 2018 Ford GT valuation.

Sales data offers a different perspective. Hagerty reports an $855,100 average sale price across 28 sales of 2017–2022 Ford GTs over the preceding 12 months. It also lists 2026 sales of 2022-model examples at $913,000 and $1.1 million. Those figures describe a group of transactions and two individual cars—not the guaranteed value of any particular Ford GT. Details are on Hagerty’s 2022 Ford GT valuation page.

Why a single sale may be far above a guide estimate

Hagerty lists a 2018 Ford GT auction sale for $2 million on August 15, 2026. That result shows how far an individual transaction can diverge from a guide figure; it does not establish $2 million as a typical price. Auction results reflect a particular vehicle and sale, while guide estimates and averages describe different kinds of evidence. Hagerty’s 2018 valuation page lists the sale alongside its condition-based valuation.

Do not confuse the two Ford GT generations

The 2017–2022 car is distinct from the earlier 2005–2006 Ford GT. For a 2006 example, Hagerty’s July 2026 #3 Good-condition valuation range is $466,333 to $536,333. That is a separate generation and should not be treated as a comparable price for a 2017–2022 car. See Hagerty’s 2006 Ford GT valuation.

Ford’s technical specification identifies the newer GT as a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive car with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 rated at 647 hp, a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle, and active aerodynamics and suspension. These details can help identify the modern generation when comparing cars. Ford’s 2017 GT technical specifications.

How to compare a Ford GT’s value with another car

Before treating a guide estimate or sale as a comparable, check that the cars are genuinely alike. The available figures do not establish a dollar adjustment for any one factor, so avoid adding or subtracting an assumed amount based on a listing description alone.
