What does a Mauritius trip cost?
A current 2026 travel-budget guide puts a week in its tight-budget tier at about €50–80 per person per day and a mid-range trip at €120–200 per person per day. Its headline weekly tiers exclude flights, so estimate airfare separately for your departure city and dates. The guide places a luxury week at about €3,500 per person and up, without a stated ceiling. These are third-party estimates, not official tariffs or quotes. [2026 travel-budget guide]
For context, Statistics Mauritius reported average tourist expenditure of Rs 74,200 per tourist in 2025, or Rs 6,600 per tourist per night. By accommodation type, the reported averages were Rs 11,700 per night for hotel visitors and Rs 1,900 for visitors in non-hotel accommodation. These are aggregate statistics, not a price promise for a specific trip or a substitute for building a budget around your own plans. [Statistics Mauritius, release dated 28 August 2026]
Where your budget goes
Accommodation
Lodging is the biggest flexible cost in the guide’s examples. Its indicative nightly ranges are €25–60 for a family-run guesthouse room, €60–150 for a three-star hotel, and €50–120 for a rental apartment. Its daily budget examples allow €25–35 for a guesthouse with breakfast in the tight-budget tier, versus €80–120 for a three-star hotel with half-board in the mid-range tier. The figures describe different lodging arrangements, so compare what meals and other services are included before comparing prices. [2026 travel-budget guide]

Meals and drinks
The guide estimates €10–15 per day for three local meals on a tight budget and €20–40 for extra meals and drinks in its mid-range example. Mauritius’ local food includes curry, rice, roti, Chinese, Indian, Creole, and seafood dishes, according to the government visitor guide. Getting around
For buses plus occasional taxis, the guide’s tight-budget allowance is €2–8 per day. Its mid-range example allows €10–20 for shared car rental or taxis. Indicative rental estimates are €25–35 a day for a small city car and €45–60 for an SUV or 4×4; category, season, and rental duration can affect the price. Government tourism information says buses operate by region, taxis are available, and a valid international driving licence is required to hire a car. Buses can keep cash costs low; taxis offer convenience, while a rental car offers flexibility. No one option is best for every itinerary. Activities
The guide allocates €10–20 per day to activities and miscellaneous spending on a tight budget, or €20–40 in its mid-range example. It lists one scuba dive at €40–50 and an introductory dive at €50–60. These are indicative examples, not fixed offers. Beaches and hikes can make for lower-cost days, while water activities and excursions can increase the total quickly. [2026 travel-budget guide]

Remember the nightly tourist fee
The Mauritius Revenue Authority says a €3 fee per tourist aged 12 or older per night applies from 1 October 2025 at covered tourist accommodation, including hotels, guesthouses, tourist residences, and domaines. Exemptions include children under 12, people staying free, residents, Mauritians abroad holding a Mauritian passport, valid Premium Visa holders, and valid Residence Permit holders. Check whether the fee appears separately on your accommodation bill. [Mauritius Revenue Authority]
When you travel can change the accommodation bill
Government tourism information identifies December, January, July, and August as busy accommodation periods when properties may add a premium. The 2026 budget guide identifies May, June, and October as possible shoulder-season opportunities for lower rates. These are broad seasonal patterns, not guarantees that a particular property will be cheaper. [Mauritius government tourism information; 2026 travel-budget guide]

Mauritius civil aviation visa-applicant guidance says applicants should have a passport valid at least six months beyond their stay, a return or onward ticket, confirmed accommodation, and sufficient funds—normally US$100 per day or equivalent to cover expenses other than board. This is an entry-related funds threshold for visa applicants, not a recommended daily spending amount. Passport and visa requirements depend on nationality and circumstances, so check the official guidance that applies to you. [Mauritius civil aviation visa guidance]

How to build a personal trip estimate
- Set your dates and party size. Check accommodation rates for your actual travel dates, especially around the busy periods identified above.
- Choose your lodging style. Compare the full stay cost for a guesthouse, hotel, or apartment, noting which meals or services are included.
- Add food, transport, and activities. Use the guide’s ranges as planning examples, then adjust for your meal choices, bus/taxi/rental-car mix, and paid excursions.
- Add the tourist fee if it applies. Budget €3 per eligible tourist per night at covered accommodation, subject to the listed exemptions.
- Price flights separately. The guide’s headline weekly tiers exclude airfare, and the available estimates do not establish one universal trip total.
