There is no publicly established current price per aircraft for a Boeing 787 and an Airbus A350. The clearest historical comparison is between the Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900: 2018 list-price inputs reproduced in a 2023 industry report put the 787-9 at €238.4 million and the A350-900 at €268.8 million. That made the A350-900 €30.4 million, or about 12.8%, higher on that historical list-price basis—not necessarily on the price an airline would pay.
How much did a Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900 cost on the published list-price figures?
Destination 2050’s 2023 report reproduces manufacturer list-price inputs for 2018 and converts dollar figures to euros at $0.85 per euro. Its figures for the two variants are:

The report also lists historical inputs of €202.4 million for the 787-8, €275.9 million for the 787-10, and €310.3 million for the A350-1000. This spread within each aircraft family is one reason a comparison should identify the exact variant rather than say only “787” or “A350.” Destination 2050 report
What does the 2026 Lufthansa order reveal about price?
In May 2026, Lufthansa Group announced an order for ten A350-900s and ten 787-9s with a combined list price of US$7.7 billion, with deliveries planned from 2032 through 2034. The announcement does not allocate that total between the two models or state a negotiated net price. It therefore cannot establish either aircraft’s per-unit price: dividing the total by 20, or assigning half to each model, would be unsupported. Lufthansa Group announcement

Why list price is not the same as what an airline pays
A published list price is a reference figure, not proof of an airline’s final outlay. Destination 2050 explains that applying class-based discounts to list prices produces sales-price estimates. Destination 2050 report
Aircraft agreements can also combine the aircraft with engines, support, financing, delivery terms, and other obligations. Boeing’s 2025 Form 10-K describes backlog values as estimated transaction prices for unsatisfied or partly satisfied obligations; those values can change when customer price and schedule changes are agreed. The available public figures do not establish a current, comparable negotiated price per 787-9 and A350-900. The €30.4 million gap applies only to the report’s historical list-price inputs; the Lufthansa figure is a combined list value, not a breakdown of prices paid.

They are a useful comparison because both variants appear in Lufthansa’s announcement and both have itemized historical list-price inputs. They are not proven to be exact substitutes in capacity, range, configuration, or operating economics.

Airbus describes the A350 as a widebody family and identifies Boeing’s 787 and 777 series among its main competitors. Its FY2025 board report gives typical three-class seating of 300–350 for the A350-900 and 350–410 for the A350-1000, with maximum ranges of 15,740 km and 16,500 km respectively. For any airline, the value of an aircraft order depends on more than the airframe’s headline price. Cabin layout, engine selection, support package, contract terms, and delivery slots can all affect what a particular deal covers.
