There is no verified current national average or price range for Invisalign in the official sources reviewed. Invisalign says the treating doctor sets the fee based on case complexity and the number of aligners, and describes the cost as generally comparable to braces. The $3,000–$7,500 figure on Invisalign’s cost-comparison page is for braces without insurance—not an Invisalign estimate. To learn your cost, get an individualized quote from a treating provider.
Why Invisalign prices vary
The provider sets the fee after evaluating your teeth and bite. Invisalign identifies case complexity and the number of aligners as cost factors; treatment needs and local provider fees mean one patient’s quote may not predict another’s. A consultation is where the provider can assess your case, discuss expected duration and give you a plan-specific price.
The American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute discontinued its Survey of Dental Fees in 2023. The official sources reviewed do not provide a current national Invisalign fee schedule, so a single national average cannot be stated reliably.
What to compare in written quotes
Ask each practice for the total treatment fee, not just a monthly payment. Confirm in writing what is included, because coverage of additional services and appliances varies by provider.
#1 Best Overall
- Records, imaging or scans, and scheduled follow-up visits
- Refinements or additional aligners if needed
- Replacement costs for lost or damaged appliances
- What happens to the fee if treatment takes longer than expected
- The initial post-treatment retainer and the price of replacements
Invisalign advises patients to ask about total plan cost, extended treatment and broken appliances. Use the same questions with every provider so the quotes are easier to compare.
How insurance may affect your out-of-pocket cost
Many dental plans cover Invisalign through orthodontic benefits in a similar way to braces, but the plan’s terms control. Benefits may be a percentage of eligible costs or a set dollar amount. Invisalign’s reference to coverage “up to $3,000” describes a possible maximum, not a promised payment.

OrthoFi reported average orthodontic coverage of $1,772 in 2021; in its dataset, 92% qualified for up to $3,000 and 77% qualified for up to $2,000. The figures came from 112,243 U.S. patients with dental insurance who used OrthoFi’s insurance verification tool. Align Technology stated that the data were on file as of January 19, 2023. These historical company-cited figures are not a forecast of what a particular plan will pay in 2026.
Before starting treatment, request a pretreatment estimate from the insurer and ask the provider to verify the benefit. Check the orthodontic lifetime maximum, age limits, waiting periods, exclusions, in-network requirements and how benefits are paid. An estimate is not a substitute for your plan’s written terms.

Payment plans, HSA and FSA funds
Some providers offer monthly plans, sometimes with a low or zero down payment. Eligible treatment expenses may be payable with HSA or FSA funds, but account rules and eligibility vary. Ask the provider and account administrator what applies to your situation.
Compare the total you will pay, including interest and fees, as well as the down payment, payment term and what happens if treatment runs longer than planned. A low monthly amount alone does not reveal the total cost.

Retainers and costs after aligner treatment
A provider may recommend a retainer after treatment to help keep teeth in place. The type of retainer, provider, insurance and your needs affect its price. Ask whether the initial retainer is included in the treatment fee, what replacements cost and whether your insurance covers them.

Invisalign describes its cost as generally comparable to braces, but that does not establish a specific Invisalign price or mean two providers’ quotes will match. When comparing Invisalign with braces or comparing providers, consider the full fee alongside clinical suitability, expected duration, monitoring and appointments, insurance benefits, financing charges and retention costs.

Clear aligners are prescription devices. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says they are safe to use only under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, such as a dentist or orthodontist. In-person examination and periodic visits can help reduce risks including uneven bite, unintended tooth movement, pain and tooth loss. The FDA also says it has not authorized clear aligners marketed directly to consumers without dentist or orthodontist supervision. A low advertised price should not replace checking who evaluates and monitors treatment.
