The right choice depends on your phone and case, how much you carry, and whether you value quick access, enclosed storage, or added security features. Travel + Leisure’s September 11, 2026 roundup names six useful candidates below; its product descriptions and testing results are attributed to that publication, not independent testing for this article.
Six phone purses to consider
Travel + Leisure’s 2026 roundup recommends nine products. These six examples illustrate different capacities and features; the roundup does not establish them as a ranked top six. Details and tester observations below are reported by Travel + Leisure.
| Product | Best fit | Reported features and fit notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bandolier Dillon Bag | A roomier hybrid | Travel + Leisure reports three compartments, including a zippered section and an exterior molded phone pocket. The pocket’s stated maximum device size is 5 x 3.75 x 0.6 inches; overall dimensions are 7.25 x 5.25 x 1.5 inches. It is made of pebbled leather. The publication’s Anna Popp called it “a phone purse/regular purse hybrid.” |
| Pacsafe GO Anti-Theft Tech Crossbody | People who prioritize security-oriented design features | The roundup describes cut-resistant recycled polyester, zip clips or tabs on compartments, RFID-blocking material, and a water-repellent coating. Its reviewers report using the front compartment with a Samsung Galaxy S24. These are design features, not a guarantee against theft. |
| The Sak Iris Smartphone Crossbody Bag | Carrying cards and wallet items alongside a phone | Reported layout: exterior phone pocket, zippered main compartment, two billfold pockets, central zip pocket, and 16 card slots. Reviewers said two phone models fit the version they tried and noted capacity limits. |
| BOSTANTEN Vegan Leather Crossbody Purse | A budget candidate with several pockets | The roundup describes a phone pocket intended for devices up to 6.5 inches, four card slots, and zippered pockets. Reviewers report that an iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 fit without additional accessories. Confirm current dimensions and case fit before buying. |
| Dagne Dover Mara Phone Sling | Everyday use with small extras | Reported features include neoprene, a back slip pocket, integrated card slots, a D-ring, and an elastic lipstick loop. Reviewers said an iPhone 15 Pro fit in the main compartment and belongings stayed dry during their use in rain; that experience is not waterproof certification. |
| POPUPS Crossbody Phone Bag | A minimalist, water-resistant design | The roundup describes a neoprene body, zippered main compartment, exterior slip pocket, removable adjustable strap, and machine-washable construction. Reviewers report water beading after a spill and use with an iPhone 17 Pro. Confirm the exact version and its current care instructions. |
How to choose a phone purse
Start with the phone and its case
Check the product’s pocket dimensions, not just the overall bag dimensions. Measure or look up your phone with its case on: a model-specific pocket may not fit a larger device, a bulky protective case, or a phone with a different camera bump. A stated maximum device size is more useful than a general claim that a bag “fits most phones,” but it still does not prove your cased phone will fit comfortably.
Choose between a phone carrier and a small day bag
A slim case-and-card design keeps the load light, while a crossbody with a separate main compartment can hold items such as keys, cash, earbuds, lip balm, or travel papers. More capacity generally means more bulk. Make a short list of what you actually carry and check that the bag has a dedicated place for each item rather than relying on an advertised capacity alone.

Match the closure to access and containment
A zipper encloses contents; a snap or flap can make it quicker to reach a phone. Weigh that trade-off against how the purse will be worn and what goes inside. A closure type alone does not establish theft protection. If security matters, look for specific construction features and consider how the purse sits on your body, while treating those features as risk-reducing design choices rather than a promise.
Check strap adjustment and material
Look for enough strap adjustment to wear the purse comfortably over the clothing you expect to use it with. Consider the material and construction for the activity and weather: a water-repellent finish or reported water beading is not the same as a waterproof rating. Follow the care instructions for the exact product version, particularly for washable designs.

What Travel + Leisure’s testing does—and does not—show
Travel + Leisure says its team tested 13 phone purses in 2026. According to its methodology, testers loaded phones and extras such as cards, cash, and keys; tried zippers, snaps, and buckles; adjusted straps; and wore each purse for at least three days, including an outing of five hours or more. The publication says it scored functionality, comfort, security, quality, and value, averaged the scores, and planned reassessment after a six-month long-term testing period. Those are Travel + Leisure’s methods and findings, not test results from thefinancebase.com.
The roundup’s fit examples refer to the reviewers’ particular devices and product versions. They do not establish compatibility with every phone in the same product family, especially when a case is added. Its rain and spill observations also describe reviewer experience, not standardized water-resistance testing.

Will contactless payment work through a phone purse?
Not necessarily. Travel + Leisure notes that performance depends on the purse’s construction, where the phone’s NFC antenna sits, and the phone controls or approval steps needed to complete a payment. Thick leather can obstruct access to controls, according to the roundup. If you expect to tap to pay, check the phone maker’s instructions and try your setup before relying on it away from home; carry a backup payment method.
When a phone purse makes sense
A phone purse is useful when you want your phone and a few essentials close at hand without carrying a conventional handbag. A compact option may suit errands or outings where you need little beyond cards and keys; a roomier crossbody is more practical when you also need small travel or day-to-day items. Decide based on your actual carry list, then verify fit, organization, strap comfort, and closure against the specific product listing.
