How much is an Indiana fishing license?
The price depends on whether you qualify as an Indiana resident and how long you need the license. The following are base license fees from Indiana DNR’s schedule updated September 4, 2026; they do not necessarily include purchase-channel charges.

| Senior Fish-for-Life | $23 for qualifying residents | Not listed |

Who counts as an Indiana resident?
For license purposes, Indiana DNR defines a resident as someone who has established a true, fixed, permanent home and primary residence in Indiana for 60 consecutive days before purchasing. The person must not claim hunting, trapping, or fishing residency in another state or country. Anyone who does not meet those conditions is considered a nonresident. Review the DNR residency definition if your situation is not straightforward.

Are children or other anglers exempt?
Nonresident youth age 17 or younger are exempt from a fishing license under the DNR fee-page guidance. Other exemptions may depend on an angler’s circumstances. Check Indiana DNR’s fishing guide and regulations before fishing if you believe an exception applies. The 2026–2027 guide summarizes regulations; the complete rules are in Indiana Code and Indiana Administrative Code Title 312.
How long does an annual Indiana fishing license last?
An annual fishing license is valid for the license year, April 1 through March 31. It is not valid for 12 months from the date you buy it. If you purchase near the end of March, check the current license dates and decide whether a shorter-duration license better fits your plans.
