There is no publicly verified current purchase price for a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Recent published figures are mostly historical list-price benchmarks, while airlines’ actual contract prices are generally undisclosed. The aircraft variant, order date and deal terms all matter.
Published Boeing 787 price figures
The clearest public benchmarks are dated order announcements that explicitly describe their totals as list prices. The per-aircraft amounts below are simple arithmetic averages of those totals, not disclosed prices paid by the airlines.

| Order and source | Variant | Published value | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Korean Air, Boeing announcement, 2019: 20 aircraft | 10 787-9s and 10 787-10s | $6.3 billion total; about $315 million per aircraft on average | Boeing list-price valuation; mixed-variant average, not a variant-specific price |
| Emirates, Boeing announcement, 2019: 30 aircraft | 787-9 | $8.8 billion total; about $293 million per aircraft on average | Boeing list-price valuation |
| Air New Zealand, Boeing announcement, 2019: 8 aircraft | 787-10 | $2.7 billion total; about $337.5 million per aircraft on average | Boeing list-price valuation |
| Associated Press report on United’s order, 2023: 787-9 list price | 787-9 | $292.5 million | Reported list price; United’s financial terms were not disclosed |
| LATAM Airlines Group, Integrated Report 2025: 15 aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2028–2030 | 787 aircraft; individual variants not stated in the cited figure | Approximately $6.321 billion total | Manufacturer list prices, not an itemized negotiated price |
These amounts are useful for understanding the scale of the aircraft’s published list-price valuations, not for estimating an airline’s actual invoice. The 2019 averages are based on Boeing’s order announcements and are not current quotes; the Korean Air average combines two variants. The Associated Press reported that airlines routinely negotiate deep discounts, but the cited sources do not establish a standard discount percentage or a public per-aircraft transaction price.

Why there is no single current price
List price is not the same as the contract price
Boeing’s cited order releases label their aggregate values as list prices. In contrast, the Associated Press reported that United did not disclose the financial terms of its 2023 order. An announced list-price total therefore cannot tell a reader what a particular airline agreed to pay.

The 787 variant changes the comparison
The public examples cover the 787-9 and 787-10, including one mixed order. Their averages are not interchangeable: the Korean Air figure does not separate the value assigned to each model. The evidence here does not establish a comparable 787-8 list or transaction price.
Newer announcements may omit price
Boeing’s May 2025 announcement of Qatar Airways’ order for 130 Dreamliners gives the quantity but no price: Boeing’s announcement. That illustrates why a current order count should not be mistaken for a current price benchmark.

Buying versus leasing a Dreamliner
Airlines can obtain aircraft through leasing as well as purchase orders, but lease payments are separate from an aircraft’s list price. Boeing said in its 2019 Korean Air announcement that the airline would lease 10 additional 787-10s from Air Lease Corporation; the release did not state the lease-payment amount. A list-price average cannot be converted into a lease quote without the contract’s terms.
How to read a quoted 787 price
- Check whether it is a list-price valuation or a disclosed transaction price.
- Confirm whether the figure refers to a 787-8, 787-9, 787-10, or a mixed-variant order.
- Check the announcement year and whether the total is an aggregate or a per-aircraft amount.
- For a lease, look for actual payment and contract terms rather than treating purchase list price as the cost of leasing.
Unless a source explicitly discloses the transaction terms, a published number should be described as a list-price benchmark or aggregate valuation—not as the price an airline paid.
