Former players have also described placement-based compensation for contestants who leave without winning, but their approximate accounts do not establish current New Era rates.
How much does the Survivor winner get?
CBS describes Survivor 51’s winner’s award as a $1 million grand prize. That is a one-time prize for winning the season, not a recurring wage or salary.
Survivor 50 was a special exception. A May 20, 2026 announcement from Paramount Press Express said that season’s winner received $2 million and a new Toyota Land Cruiser. That announcement does not make the higher award the standard prize for other seasons.
| Season | Announced winner’s award | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Survivor 51 | $1 million grand prize | CBS’s official season page |
| Survivor 50 | $2 million and a Toyota Land Cruiser | Paramount Press Express announcement dated May 20, 2026; specific to Survivor 50 |
Do contestants get paid if they lose?
Former contestants have said that players receive compensation tied to how far they get in the game. The specific figures in public accounts are estimates or recollections from earlier seasons, not an official CBS payment schedule.

| Jury members | At least $20,000 | Wentworth’s approximate Old Era figure, as reported by EntertainmentNow |
| 10th place | Probably $20,000–$25,000 | Wentworth’s estimate for her own finish, as reported by EntertainmentNow |
| Fourth place | About $65,000 | Wentworth’s approximate Old Era figure, as reported by EntertainmentNow |
Wentworth summarized the general arrangement by saying, “Every player that goes on ‘Survivor’ does get some sort of compensation.” Her fourth-place estimate was: “Fourth place on ‘Survivor’ pays about $65,000.” Both statements were relayed by EntertainmentNow and should be read as player-reported estimates, not official CBS terms. Andrea Boehlke’s earlier-season recollection

They are not confirmed as current rates. Wentworth said she did not know whether compensation had changed for the New Era. CBS’s 2019 eligibility document states the $1 million prize but does not list a payment scale for contestants who are eliminated. It also describes a commitment of approximately seven weeks in a remote location; that is historical document wording, not a verified duration for current seasons. As a result, the public information supports a distinction, not a precise current pay chart: the winner’s prize is stated by CBS, while non-winner compensation is described in former players’ accounts whose amounts relate to earlier seasons. No comprehensive official contestant-payment statistic or current New Era scale is established by these sources.
