In the U.S., Nintendo’s launch MSRP examples were $79.99 for Mario Kart World and $69.99 for Donkey Kong Bananza, with those prices applying to both physical and digital copies at launch. They are not a price schedule for every game: Nintendo’s policy for new Switch 2 digital exclusives changed in May 2026, and retailers set their own prices. Check the current listing for the specific game, format, region and seller before budgeting.
How much do Nintendo Switch 2 games cost?
Nintendo does not set one price for every Switch 2 game. Its U.S. launch examples, announced April 18, 2025, were:
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
Mario Kart™ World (Nintendo Switch 2) | $79.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| 2 |
|
Star Fox™ - Nintendo Switch 2 | $59.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| 3 |
|
Donkey Kong Bananza (Nintendo Switch 2) | $69.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| 4 |
|
Pokémon Pokopia - Nintendo Switch 2 | $69.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| Game | U.S. launch MSRP | Launch format pricing |
|---|---|---|
| Mario Kart World | $79.99 | Same MSRP for physical and digital |
| Donkey Kong Bananza | $69.99 | Same MSRP for physical and digital |
These are launch MSRPs, not guaranteed current prices or predictions for other titles. Nintendo’s announcement gives the two launch figures and says each applied to both formats: Nintendo’s U.S. launch pricing announcement.
Are Switch 2 games cheaper digitally?
Not as a universal rule. For the two launch examples above, Nintendo said the physical and digital MSRPs were the same. Beginning in May 2026, however, new Nintendo-published digital games exclusive to Switch 2 can have an MSRP different from their physical versions. Nintendo says the change starts with preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Its policy statement does not give a price list for every title.

Nintendo explains that the different MSRPs reflect the costs of producing and distributing each format, while the game experience is the same in packaged and digital formats. The policy means buyers should compare the specific game’s eShop price with physical listings rather than assume one format is always less expensive. See Nintendo Support’s Switch 2 game-pricing guidance.
Why can physical and digital prices differ?
Nintendo says the format-specific MSRP change reflects different production and distribution costs. But MSRP is a suggested retail price, not a promise that every seller will charge the same amount. Nintendo says retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and prices can vary by title. As a result, a physical copy is not automatically more expensive, nor is a digital copy automatically cheaper; the actual difference depends on the title and seller.

How to compare the cost before buying
- Check your region. The prices above are U.S. dollar figures. Do not use them as regional prices or convert them to another currency as if they were official local MSRPs.
- Compare the same game and edition. Look at the current eShop listing and physical listings for that title. Make sure the listings describe the same game and purchase option.
- Compare the actual seller prices. Retailers can set their own prices, so compare the total you would pay through the eShop or a retailer rather than relying only on MSRP.
- Factor in format preference. Nintendo says packaged and digital versions offer the same game experience; choose based on the available price and how you want to buy and play.
Is there a Switch 2 game bundle?
Nintendo announced a limited-time U.S. Choose Your Game Bundle at a suggested retail price of $499.99, available through participating retailers starting in early June 2026. It includes a Switch 2 system and a download code for one of Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza or Pokémon Pokopia—not a physical game card. Nintendo said the bundle could save up to $29.99 compared with buying the system and game separately at MSRP; actual savings vary by retailer, and the offer is available while supplies last. Because it is time-limited, confirm availability and compare the bundle with separate purchases at the same retailer before counting on a saving. Details are in Nintendo’s bundle announcement.
