Billboard estimated that The Life of a Showgirl generated about $135 million in worldwide first-week revenue, according to ABC Audio’s October 28, 2025 report. That is an estimate of album-related revenue—not a disclosed payment to Taylor Swift or her take-home earnings. The sources reviewed do not reveal her contractual share, costs, or net proceeds.
What the $135 million estimate represents
ABC Audio reported that Billboard estimated about $80 million in U.S. revenue and extrapolated the worldwide estimate of about $135 million from that figure. The reported calculation considered retail and wholesale prices alongside download and streaming costs. It is an estimate, not a published audited accounting of the album’s receipts.
Revenue generated by an album is not the same as money earned personally by its artist. The reported estimate does not establish how much Swift received after contractual arrangements, royalties, expenses, or other costs. No specific personal payout or net-income figure is disclosed in the cited reporting.
How the sales and streaming figures differ from revenue
Luminate data reported by Guinness World Records put the album at 4.002 million equivalent album units in the U.S. chart week of October 3–9, 2025. Equivalent units combine different forms of consumption; they are not dollars and should not be read as 4.002 million individual album purchases.

| U.S. first-week measure | Reported figure | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Equivalent album units | 4.002 million | Combined consumption expressed as album-equivalent units |
| Traditional album sales | 3,479,500 | Album purchases, as reported by Guinness World Records from Luminate data |
| Streaming equivalent albums | 522,600 | Streaming consumption converted into album-equivalent units; corresponding to 680.9 million on-demand official streams |
The unit breakdown is a measure of U.S. chart consumption for that October 3–9 week, not a calculation of Swift’s earnings. The revenue estimate and the unit figures use different measures and should not be added together.
What the global first-week announcement adds
Republic Records announced more than 5.5 million global album-equivalent units and more than 1.5 billion global streams for the album’s first week. Those are label-reported worldwide consumption figures, not an audited statement of artist income. They differ in geography and measure from the U.S. Luminate breakdown reported by Guinness World Records.

Republic Records’ October 13, 2025 release also carried Swift’s statement: “I have 4 million thank you’s I want to send to the fans.” The remark refers to the scale of the U.S. debut, not to a personal earnings amount.
What the album’s later global ranking says—and does not say
In results published February 20, 2026, IFPI named The Life of a Showgirl the biggest-selling global album of 2025. It ranked first on IFPI’s 2025 Global Album Chart, Global Album Sales Chart, and Global Vinyl Album Chart. IFPI’s overall global album chart combines physical sales, downloads, and streaming while incorporating format and regional economics in its methodology.

Those year-end rankings establish the album’s global reach and performance across formats; they do not provide a dollar total for Swift’s personal earnings. They also cover calendar-year 2025 rather than the album’s first chart week.
