Public reporting does not establish how much MacKenzie Scott or Dan Jewett received in their divorce. Their property and debt division was handled under a separation contract described as confidential, and no settlement amount or asset-by-asset allocation has been disclosed in the reporting reviewed.

What is known about Scott and Jewett’s divorce?

Scott filed for divorce in King County Superior Court in September 2022. Her petition asked the court to divide real property, personal property, debts and liabilities according to a separation contract, but the petition did not include the contract’s terms. GeekWire’s account of the filing reported that Jewett agreed to the petition and contract, that the couple had no children together, and that both lived in King County.

The divorce was finalized in January 2023. Later reporting based on court documents said the property division followed a confidential separation contract and that spousal support was not requested. It did not disclose the contract’s financial value or specify which assets either person received. The court-document-based report therefore does not support a dollar estimate for the settlement.

Why aren’t the financial terms public?

The petition referred to a separate contract rather than setting out its terms. University of Washington family-law professor Terry Price told GeekWire in 2022 that the details would “will never see the light of day.” That was Price’s prediction about the agreement’s privacy, not a court finding or a guarantee that Scott or Jewett could never disclose it.

Nor does the available information establish that every related court record is inaccessible. King County’s records guidance says many Superior Court records can be accessed online or in person, while some confidential records may require help from the clerk. The careful conclusion is that the reporting reviewed did not reveal the settlement details—not that the court categorically bars access to every record.

How does the Jewett divorce compare with Scott’s divorce from Jeff Bezos?

Scott’s 2019 divorce from Jeff Bezos had a public financial announcement; her later divorce from Jewett did not. The two agreements are separate, and the earlier disclosure cannot be used to infer what either spouse received in the later divorce.

Scott and Bezos, 2019 Scott was to receive 25 percent of the couple’s Amazon shares, reported as 4 percent of Amazon’s outstanding shares. Reuters reported the shares were worth roughly $36 billion at the time. This was a contemporaneous valuation, not a current figure or a value for the Jewett divorce. Reuters said the announcement gave no further financial details. Reuters’ 2019 report
Scott and Jewett, finalized January 2023 Reporting described a confidential separation contract governing the property division; no total or asset-by-asset allocation was reported. The public reporting reviewed does not establish a settlement amount. The January 2023 report

Scott and Bezos also disclosed that Bezos retained the couple’s interests in The Washington Post and Blue Origin. That detail belongs to their 2019 settlement, not the later Jewett divorce. Reuters’ report says the settlement announcement provided no additional financial terms.

What the available information does not show

  • It does not establish that Jewett received a particular sum, a share of Scott’s wealth, or no money.
  • It does not identify the assets or debts allocated to either spouse under their separation contract.
  • It does not allow a settlement amount to be calculated from estimates of Scott’s wealth; those estimates are not evidence of what the contract provided.

Jewett’s earlier public Giving Pledge letter with Scott described their commitment to give away wealth. That was a public statement about philanthropy, not evidence of a divorce term or financial allocation.
