Coventry City have already secured promotion and are in the Premier League for 2026/27. A Deloitte projection, as reported in July 2026, puts the club’s additional revenue at at least £210 million across three seasons, rising to a projected £365 million if Coventry avoids relegation in its first season. Those are club revenue forecasts—not profit, a promotion cheque or money shown to have gone into owner Doug King’s pocket.
What the £210 million and £365 million figures mean
The estimates attributed to Deloitte’s 35th Annual Review of Football Finance were reported by the Coventry Chronicle in July 2026. They describe projected revenue uplift over three seasons from Coventry’s return to the top flight, including matchday, broadcast and commercial income.
| Reported projection | Time period | Condition and meaning |
|---|---|---|
| At least £210 million | Three seasons | Projected minimum club revenue uplift; not a guaranteed payment or profit. Coventry Chronicle |
| £365 million | Three seasons | Projected club revenue uplift in the higher scenario if Coventry avoids relegation in its first Premier League season; conditional, not guaranteed. Coventry Chronicle |
The higher figure is not a second estimate of what King can personally take out. It is a scenario tied to survival and applies to the club’s projected revenue over the same three-season horizon.
How much can Doug King personally pocket?
The sources reviewed do not establish a promotion bonus, dividend, sale proceeds or other personal cash payment to King. A May 2026 Guardian report said he acquired 100% of Coventry City in January 2023, but sole ownership does not turn club revenue into personal income. The amount he can or did pocket is not stated in the available reporting. The Guardian

To reach an owner payment, the club would first need to meet its costs and obligations and generate money available for distribution; any payment would also depend on a decision or transaction. The published promotion estimate quantifies only projected club revenue uplift, not those later steps.
Why revenue is not the same as profit or cash
Revenue is money earned by the club before expenses. The amount left after wages, transfer costs and other operating expenses can be much smaller, and the timing of income and obligations affects available cash. Neither a projected revenue increase nor a higher turnover figure alone tells a reader how much profit Coventry will make or how much cash could be distributed to its owner.

Coventry’s accounts for the year ended 31 May 2025, reported by BBC Sport in 2026, showed turnover of just over £34 million and a pre-tax loss of £21.6 million. These are pre-promotion figures and exclude the stadium purchase in August 2025, so they provide historical context rather than a forecast of the club’s finances after promotion. BBC Sport
Premier League payments and spending rules
Premier League central distributions are not one fixed promotion prize. The league describes distributions through broadcast-related payments, facility fees and merit payments. The annual allocation can vary with broadcast appearances and final league position; the league also says it has no separate prize fund for winning the league. Discussing Coventry’s Premier League challenge, King told BBC Sport: “People spend money very badly at times, I would say what we do is we look for value.” The BBC also reported his view that simply throwing money at the challenge would be a mistake. BBC Sport
