Neither figure is an official club disclosure or proof of money saved: the wage figures are estimates, and the club’s announcements do not state its payroll savings.
Which Norwich City departures count?
Norwich’s May 19, 2026 retained and released list names five first-team players leaving when their contracts end: Shane Duffy, Emiliano Marcondes, Tony Springett, Jeffrey Schlupp and Dan Barden. Those five are the group that can be matched to the available Norwich wage estimates.
The club also said Sam Field and Harry Amass would return to their parent clubs after loan spells. They are not the same category as players leaving at the end of Norwich contracts, so their wages should not be added to this estimate without evidence of what Norwich paid during their loans.
The full club list also includes academy professionals AJ Bridge, Henry Bullen, Brandon Forbes, Billy Gee, Damari Daley, Lloyd Ofori-Manteaw, Jaiden Owen, Charlie Wilson and Harmony Okwumo, as well as scholars Ethan Binnie, Victor Madu, Foden Northover and Jack Ruddy. The wage dataset does not provide matching estimates for those departures, so the five-player figure is not a total for every person on the club’s released list.

Estimated weekly wages for the five first-team contract departures
SalaryLeaks’ Norwich City estimates for the 2025/26 season, last updated June 17, 2026, list these weekly amounts:
| Player | Estimated wage per week |
|---|---|
| Shane Duffy | £35,000 |
| Emiliano Marcondes | £23,000 |
| Tony Springett | £6,000 |
| Jeffrey Schlupp | £25,000 |
| Daniel (Dan) Barden | £4,000 |
| Combined estimate | £93,000 |
The £93,000 weekly total is the arithmetic sum of those five estimates; it is not a departures-only total published by SalaryLeaks. Its page says comprehensive Championship salary data is rarely published and that many figures are informed estimates based on available reporting and club wage-bill information. It does not establish that each of these five entries was individually verified. See SalaryLeaks’ 2025-26 Norwich City player salaries for its figures and methodology note.

Why the £70,769 figure is not established
The £70,769-a-week figure in the original headline does not match the £93,000 sum of the five available estimates. The sources reviewed do not explain how £70,769 was calculated or which players it includes. It may reflect a different scope or calculation, but without a sourced breakdown it should be treated as unverified—not as a confirmed saving.

Even if the five estimates were accurate, adding them would show estimated gross weekly wages, not Norwich’s net financial benefit. The club’s public departure announcements confirm status, not individual pay or the amount it will save. The figures do not establish how contract terms, bonuses, loan arrangements, replacement players or other costs affect the club’s finances.

Norwich’s April 24, 2026 departure announcement gives some context for the players’ time at the club: Duffy made 91 appearances; Marcondes made 50, scoring six goals and recording eight assists; Springett made 33 senior appearances; Barden made four; and Schlupp made 11 appearances and one assist before injury curtailed his season.
