Leeds United were reported to be due a modest payment of just over £140,000 after former forward Rafa Mujica moved from Portugal’s Arouca to Qatar’s Al Sadd in 2024. That estimate came from CaughtOffside, citing Spanish outlet Tinta Amarilla; neither club confirmed the amount or that Leeds received it. It is separate from the €10 million transfer fee reported for Arouca.
How much was Leeds United reported to be due?
CaughtOffside reported on 16 May 2024 that Leeds was entitled to a portion of the proceeds from Mujica’s move and put the amount at just above £140,000, attributing the figure to Tinta Amarilla. Treat that as a secondary-media estimate, not an official Leeds figure or confirmed payment. Leeds and Al Sadd did not disclose a Leeds payment in their announcements.
The headline term “financial windfall” is relative: the reported sum is a six-figure payment, not a major club-finance event. The exact contractual or regulatory basis for Leeds’ reported entitlement is not established in the available club announcements, so no specific sell-on clause or percentage can be stated as fact.
Is that the same as the €10 million transfer fee?
No. Relevo reported on 7 May 2024 that Al Sadd would pay Arouca Mujica’s €10 million release clause. That figure concerns the reported Arouca-to-Al Sadd transfer, not the amount Leeds was said to be due. The two reports describe different sums and differ in certainty: Al Sadd officially confirmed the signing, while the Leeds compensation estimate was reported by media.

How did Mujica’s Leeds connection arise?
Leeds announced Mujica’s arrival from Barcelona on 4 July 2019 on a three-year contract, saying he would initially join the under-23 side. In 2021, the club announced that he had joined UD Las Palmas permanently for an undisclosed fee. Leeds also said he had not made a senior appearance for the club and had spent time on loan. The undisclosed fee means the public record does not establish what Leeds received when he left.
Al Sadd officially announced Mujica’s signing from Arouca on 30 May 2024 on a four-year deal starting in the 2024–25 season. That announcement did not state the transfer fee or any payment to Leeds.

What is confirmed—and what remains uncertain?
- Confirmed by club announcements: Mujica joined Leeds in 2019, moved permanently to Las Palmas in 2021 for an undisclosed fee, and signed for Al Sadd in 2024.
- Reported by media: Relevo put the Arouca-to-Al Sadd fee at €10 million, while CaughtOffside, citing Tinta Amarilla, reported a Leeds portion just above £140,000.
- Not established by the cited club statements: the precise basis and calculation of Leeds’ reported entitlement, its final amount, and whether the money was paid.
Leeds managing director Robbie Evans discussed the club’s then-current Squad Cost Ratio treatment of player-sale profits in September 2026, saying profits are spread across multiple seasons under that system, unlike the previous PSR approach, where sale profit was booked at once. This is general later context; it does not establish how a Mujica-related payment from 2024 was treated.
