A HondaJet’s current price is not established by the available official figures. Honda announced a price of $3.65 million for a standard-configuration HondaJet in 2006; that is a historical launch-era price, not today’s price. For the current Elite II, a third-party cost model uses a representative reference price of $6.95 million and estimates about $830,930 a year to operate at 350 flight hours. Neither figure is a current Honda factory quotation or a guaranteed owner bill.
How much does a HondaJet cost?
The clearest official price in the available sources is Honda Aircraft Company’s 2006 announcement: $3.65 million for a HondaJet in standard configuration. That figure belongs to the aircraft’s launch period and should not be used as a present-day price for a new or used HondaJet. Honda’s October 17, 2006 announcement records the historical price.
For today’s Elite II, Lightbirds lists $6.95 million as a representative reference price. It is a third-party model figure, not an official Honda list price, dealer quote, or verified sale. The available evidence does not establish a current factory price or a present transaction price for a particular aircraft. Actual asking and purchase prices depend on the specific aircraft and its configuration, age, and condition. Lightbirds’ Elite II cost model provides the reference figure and its assumptions.
What does it cost to own and operate a HondaJet?
Lightbirds models approximately $830,930 in annual operating costs at 350 flight hours for the Elite II. In that provider’s estimate, annual expenses comprise $264,000 in fixed costs and $566,930 in variable costs. These are modeled amounts, not an invoice, a universal budget, or an independently verified owner’s actual expenses.

| Annual operating costs | Approximately $830,930 | Modeled total at 350 flight hours per year. |
The estimate depends on the model’s assumptions. An owner’s budget can change with utilization, crew, hangar, insurance, fuel, maintenance, aircraft management, and financing. Before relying on a figure, check what the estimate includes and whether it accounts for items such as depreciation, taxes, financing, or management fees; the available model does not establish a universal accounting method or owner budget.
Why did Honda start making planes?
Honda’s aircraft business grew out of a long-running engineering program, not a sudden move into an unrelated product. The company says aircraft research began in 1986. The HondaJet project formally started in 1997, and its experimental aircraft first flew in December 2003. After the aircraft’s public debut in 2005, Honda announced commercialization and established Honda Aircraft Company in 2006 to develop, sell, and produce the jet. Honda’s corporate history of its aircraft effort traces the program’s development.

Honda’s stated design ambition included improving fuel economy by 20–30% over existing aircraft and making passenger operating costs comparable to domestic first-class travel when carrying three to four passengers. These were historical goals described by Honda, not proof that the finished aircraft achieves those comparisons on every mission. The company also explains that its over-wing engine-mount design was intended to create more cabin room while reducing aerodynamic drag and supporting speed and fuel economy. Honda’s HondaJet technology feature describes the design and the company’s rationale.

Honda reported approximately 1,000 employees at the company in 2024 and describes its Greensboro, North Carolina site as bringing research, headquarters, production, and customer service together. Those milestones show how an engineering project became a manufacturing and support operation; they do not make the 2006 price or the third-party operating-cost estimate current quotes. Honda Aircraft Company’s 250th-delivery announcement reports the delivery milestone. Honda’s 2024 company feature provides the employee and site context.
