Salesforce completed its acquisition of Informatica on November 18, 2025. Salesforce says Informatica adds enterprise data catalog, metadata, lineage, governance, integration, quality, privacy and master-data capabilities to the foundation around Agentforce 360. The intended benefit is better context for AI agents working across business systems—not a guarantee that every system is connected or that agent answers are now more accurate.
What Informatica adds to Salesforce’s AI data architecture
The acquisition gives Salesforce a broader set of data-management capabilities to position alongside Data 360, MuleSoft, Agentforce and Tableau. In Salesforce’s description, Data 360 provides a harmonized context layer, MuleSoft connects applications and operational signals, and Informatica contributes enterprise metadata intelligence across systems. Salesforce describes this as a product strategy for agentic AI; it does not establish that all of those products are fully integrated for every customer or data source.

The distinction matters: an AI agent can only work with the information and access its deployment makes available. Informatica’s metadata and lineage are intended to help describe and trace that information, rather than substitute for the underlying business records or the controls that govern their use.

|---|---|---|
| Enterprise metadata and catalog | Combines Salesforce’s metadata model with Informatica’s catalog to describe data assets across systems, including on-premises environments, data lakes and legacy infrastructure. | Definitions and relationships can help identify what a field or asset represents and where relevant information may reside. |
| Data lineage | Traces data from its origin to its consumption and shows transformations along the way. | Can help people and systems understand where a value came from and how it was produced. |
| Master Data Management (MDM) | Manages master data for business objects beyond customers, including products, suppliers and assets. | Can help establish consistent representations of important entities across different systems. |
| Governance, quality and privacy | Extends the data-management capabilities Salesforce says it acquired, including governance, quality and privacy services. | These capabilities can support rules for data use and management; their effect depends on how they are configured and applied. |
| Integration | Informatica’s integration capabilities sit alongside MuleSoft, which Salesforce describes as a route for connecting applications and operational signals. | Connections can make information available across systems, subject to the chosen architecture, permissions and implementation. |
Why metadata and lineage are different from the data itself
Metadata supplies meaning
Metadata describes data: for example, what a field means, how it relates to other fields, or which business object it belongs to. A catalog organizes descriptions of data assets so they can be discovered. For an agent, that context may help distinguish between similarly named fields or identify the records relevant to a task. It does not, by itself, provide access to the records.

Lineage supplies a trace
Lineage records where data originated and the transformations it underwent before reaching a destination. That trace can help explain why a value appears as it does and support review of how information moved through a process. It is not a certification that the original data was correct, that every transformation is captured, or that an AI response based on the data is reliable.
Governance sets the rules
Governance concerns the policies and controls for managing and using data. Catalogs and lineage can provide useful context for those controls, but they are not the controls themselves. A company still needs to determine which systems and data are in scope, how access is granted, and how its policies are implemented.
What Salesforce and Informatica have announced since the acquisition
Salesforce’s May 29, 2026 release
Salesforce described a Data 360 Connector and Scanner for bidirectional data flow between enterprise systems and Data 360, with end-to-end lineage. In the same release, Salesforce said Headless Data Management, Headless CLAIRE and Data Quality Agent were generally available in Spring 2026. It listed Agentic Integration and Metadata Enrichment Agent for Q4 2026. These are availability statements attributed to Salesforce in a release dated May 29, 2026; the announcement does not establish which capabilities are enabled in a particular customer’s environment.
Informatica’s September 17, 2026 AI-readiness announcement
Informatica introduced AI-Ready Data Intelligence as an assessment of metadata, data access, lineage and related dimensions across seven factors: discoverability, quality, context, accessibility, governance, trust and observability. Informatica said catalog customers could access the capability through Claude at the time of publication. That is the vendor’s dated availability statement, not confirmation of availability for every customer or of status after September 17, 2026.
Salesforce’s September 13, 2026 architecture description
Salesforce’s Enterprise AI Harness article placed Informatica alongside Data 360, MuleSoft, Agent Fabric, Tableau, Agentforce, Salesforce Guardian and Salesforce Platform in a composable architecture. Salesforce frames its governance approach as spanning data, metadata, policies and processes, with lineage, quality, guardrails and controls. This describes the company’s intended architecture rather than proving a particular end-to-end implementation.
Salesforce’s fiscal 2026 annual report also says the Informatica acquisition closed in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, and describes expanded connectivity to distributed systems with governance, lineage and security controls across the data lifecycle.
What this could mean for financial-services organizations
For a bank, insurer or other financial-services organization considering Salesforce products, the relevant question is whether its own data landscape and intended agent tasks can be described, connected and governed in the proposed architecture. A catalog and lineage view could help teams investigate which records and transformations an agent’s answer depends on. That is a potential operational use, not evidence that financial firms have deployed the combined products or achieved a particular outcome.

Questions to ask before treating the architecture as a solution
- Coverage: Which systems, data assets and business objects are actually cataloged, and which remain outside the view?
- Lineage: Can teams trace the information used for a task from its origin through the transformations that matter to them?
- Quality and definitions: Who owns the meaning and quality rules for critical data, and how are conflicts between systems handled?
- Access and governance: Which permissions and policies govern agent access, and how are those controls tested in the configured environment?
- Availability: Is each needed component generally available for the organization’s specific deployment, or is it only announced for a later release period?
- Evidence of outcomes: What organization-specific evaluation shows whether the deployment improves task performance, and how are errors or unsupported answers detected?
What the announcement does—and does not—prove
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff summarized the company’s rationale in the November 18, 2025 acquisition completion release: “You have to get your data right to get your AI right.” Salesforce executive Rahul Auradkar later described the intended combination this way: “By combining Salesforce and Informatica’s enterprise metadata with Data 360’s harmonized sub-sec real-time context and MuleSoft’s integration strength, we replace guessing with reasoning.” Both statements explain Salesforce’s position on the strategy; neither is an independent measurement of its results.
The official announcements and company materials describe capabilities, architecture and release timing. They do not provide an independently measured figure showing that Informatica’s metadata or lineage improves Agentforce accuracy, adoption or business performance by a specified amount. Treat improved context and governance as the intended rationale, and evaluate any claimed result against the organization’s own systems and evidence.
