Airbus announced the first 10 aircraft in 2023, added six more to the order in 2025, and reported delivery of the first aircraft in February 2026. The aircraft and route announcements point to planned U.S. expansion, but they do not establish EgyptAir’s current October 2026 schedule or whether the new routes are profitable.
How many A350s did EgyptAir order, and when?
The order grew in two stages: EgyptAir initially committed to 10 A350-900s, then firmed up an additional six, bringing the total to 16. Airbus announced the orders in its releases on 14 November 2023 and 18 June 2025.

Airbus described the first aircraft as the first A350 operated in North Africa. Its delivery announcement lists a two-class cabin with 30 business-class suites and 310 economy seats. That is 340 seats in total, consistent with the 340-seat figure Airbus gave in its 2023 order announcement; both figures are Airbus’s descriptions, not an independent cabin inspection.
Why is EgyptAir adding the A350?
EgyptAir and Airbus have presented the order as a long-haul fleet-modernization and network-expansion move. When Airbus announced the extra six aircraft in 2025, EgyptAir chairman and CEO Ahmed Adel said the purchase would help meet rising long-haul demand and support network expansion over the following five years. Airbus’s 2026 delivery announcement likewise said the aircraft would support new non-stop destinations from Cairo, including the U.S. West Coast and North Asia.

The aircraft’s range is relevant to those plans: Airbus says the A350 is designed to fly up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometres) non-stop. Airbus also claims a 25% advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation competitor aircraft. Those are manufacturer specifications and comparisons—not measured EgyptAir savings on a particular route. The order announcements do not establish EgyptAir’s realized operating costs, emissions reductions or route profitability.
What has EgyptAir announced about Los Angeles and Chicago?
There are two different kinds of information here: an official forward-looking statement and later trade reporting about service. They should not be mistaken for a verified timetable for October 2026.

Los Angeles: the announced plan and reported resumption
In February 2026, Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny said Cairo–Los Angeles service was expected to begin by June, after the second A350 arrived. The statement, reported by Egypt’s State Information Service, described a plan rather than confirming an operating schedule.
On 29 May 2026, Aviation Week reported that EgyptAir had resumed Cairo–Los Angeles service for the first time in more than two decades, with three flights per week. That is a dated report of service, not confirmation of the route’s current frequency or availability on 8 October 2026.

Chicago: planned service, not a current schedule
The minister’s February statement placed Chicago in a second phase. Aviation Week subsequently reported a planned Cairo–Chicago O’Hare start on 21 June 2026, at three flights per week. Its report said Los Angeles and Chicago would bring EgyptAir’s U.S. destinations to five, alongside New York JFK, Newark and Washington Dulles. The schedule and launch details are dated reporting; check EgyptAir’s live timetable for current service before planning a trip.
What do the passenger and capacity figures show?
Aviation Week reported the following market figures, attributing the passenger estimates to Sabre Market Intelligence and the capacity figures to OAG. They describe market demand or scheduled capacity, not EgyptAir’s own passengers, revenue or financial results.

These figures help explain why airlines may see room to add capacity, but they cannot answer whether any specific EgyptAir route earns a profit. That depends on factors such as fares, operating costs, passenger mix and connecting traffic; the cited reporting does not provide a route-level profitability calculation.
