Steam does not offer a standard withdrawal, transfer, or gifting option for Wallet balances, and Community Market sales are credited to your Steam Wallet rather than a bank account. There is one narrow exception: you may request a refund for Wallet funds bought directly from Steam within 14 days, provided none of those funds have been used.
Can you withdraw or transfer Steam Wallet funds?
No. Steam says Wallet funds cannot be moved or gifted to another Steam account. Its Steam Wallet FAQ also says funds from Community Market transactions cannot be withdrawn to a bank or third-party account. There is no ordinary cash-out feature.

That means a Steam gift card does not solve the problem: it adds Steam value to an account; it does not redeem an existing Wallet balance for cash. Steam says physical retail gift cards are being discontinued, with retailers expected to run out of stock by the end of 2026.
When can Steam Wallet funds be refunded?
Steam’s stated exception applies only to Wallet funds purchased directly on Steam. You must request the refund within 14 days of purchase, and none of the funds can have been used. Submit a request through Steam Support. Approval is subject to Steam’s review and policy.

This exception does not turn Market proceeds, gifted funds, or funds purchased elsewhere into cash. If the money came from selling items on the Community Market, Steam keeps the proceeds in your Wallet; the official route is to use them for eligible Steam purchases.
Refunding a game is a different process
A refund for a game or other Steam purchase is separate from a refund of Wallet funds. Steam’s general rule for title refunds is to request one within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime. In the request flow, you can choose Wallet credit or the original payment method; Steam reviews the request under its refund policy. The two-hour and 14-day guideline is not a guarantee of approval.

- Open Steam Support and select the relevant purchase in Steam Help.
- Choose the refund option and submit the request, including your preferred refund destination if offered.
- Check Steam’s response. Steam says processing can take up to seven days; refunds to Steam Wallet often appear within 24–48 hours.

Selling an item on the Community Market does not produce withdrawable cash. Trading with another user is not a Steam-supported money transfer either: Steam says its trading interface “does not support the transfer of money in any form.” It also warns against trades that offer Wallet credit. Read its recommended trading practices before accepting a trade.

Steam also says account ownership cannot be transferred, and buying or selling accounts violates its Subscriber Agreement. Do not give another person your credentials or let them log in to arrange a supposed sale. Steam does not endorse external exchanges as a way to cash out, and the cited Steam policies do not establish that any third-party service is safe or approved.
