Clowes. It does not establish David Clowes’s personal net worth, inheritance, salary, dividends or individual ownership stake. Derby County was acquired by Clowes Developments, not documented as a personal purchase by David alone.
What business is David Clowes’s wealth associated with?
David Clowes is chairman of Clowes Developments, the family property business his father founded as CWC Group in 1964. The company’s history says Charles built a portfolio spanning industrial, office, retail and residential property, with more than 120 sites accumulated over five decades. David and his brother Thomas continued the business after their father died in 2015.
Clowes Developments describes its work as acquiring land and buildings and pursuing development sales. This supports the careful conclusion that Clowes’s wealth is associated with a multigenerational property-development business. It does not reveal how much wealth belongs to him personally or how it was divided within the family.
How did Clowes Developments perform?
For the financial year ended 31 March 2025, Clowes Developments reported £147.1 million in turnover and £5.4 million in operating profit before exceptional items. These figures, reported by the company, measure business activity and operating performance; they are not David Clowes’s personal income, cash holdings or net worth.

The company’s 2025 report also describes a substantial development pipeline and property assets. Those are company-level figures, not a basis for estimating an individual shareholder’s fortune. Turnover is revenue, not profit, and neither figure on its own shows what an owner receives.
Did David Clowes personally buy Derby County?
No public account cited here documents the purchase as David Clowes’s personal transaction. In June 2022, Clowes Developments announced that it had bought the company that owned Pride Park, provided Derby County with an interim loan, and planned to bid for the club. The company said David, as its chairman, led negotiations. He explained the stadium-first move by saying, “As a local and established property Company, purchasing the stadium seemed the obvious first step.”

The club acquisition was made by Clowes Developments. Derby County’s joint administrators announced on 1 July 2022 that the sale price was undisclosed. The club’s open letter identified Clowes as the club’s owner after the acquisition; in it, he said he could not stand by while the risk of losing the club became real.
Derby County’s 2025 filed accounts say Clowes Developments funded the purchase of the club and separately acquired the stadium. They also state that, in 2025, the club and stadium were brought under Derby County (The Rams) Holdings Limited, which is wholly owned by Clowes Developments. This describes the corporate buyer and later ownership structure, but does not disclose David’s personal source of funds.

What do public records say about ownership and control?
The Companies House record for Clowes Developments (UK) Limited identifies The Clowes Trust 2014 as exercising control over 75% or more of the company’s shares and voting rights. That is a disclosure about corporate control through the trust. It does not say that David personally owns that percentage or quantify his beneficial wealth.
Is David Clowes’s net worth known?
The sources cited here do not establish a reliable figure for David Clowes’s personal net worth, the amount he inherited, his individual shareholding, or his salary or dividends. The company’s turnover, operating profit, property assets and development pipeline cannot be substituted for those missing personal figures. Accordingly, any precise net-worth estimate would go beyond what these public records support.

What is known about Derby County’s current ownership?
Derby County Supporters’ Board notes dated 1 June 2026 said multiple interested parties were in conversation with the club about investment, and that the club would not comment on speculation before legal and regulatory processes allowed. The notes record discussions, not a completed sale. They do not, by themselves, establish a change in ownership; a newer official announcement would be needed to confirm one.
