Home Innovation Builders did go into liquidation on 11 April 2022. Early reports said the Clarkson-based Perth-area builder appeared close to collapse; later parliamentary records confirmed the date. New Sensation Homes entered administration that same day, rather than collapsing days earlier.
What happened to Home Innovation Builders?
In an April 2022 report, The West Australian said documents it had seen suggested a liquidator could be formally appointed as soon as the following Monday. The company’s director, Julian Van Der Spuy, declined to comment on its future.
That initial coverage described a looming liquidation. A later Western Australian Legislative Assembly record states that Home Innovation Builders went into liquidation on 11 April 2022. A federal parliamentary debate subsequently corroborated that date.
How did the timing compare with New Sensation Homes?
The two events were not separated by several days: parliamentary records place Home Innovation Builders’ liquidation and New Sensation Homes’ entry into administration on 11 April 2022. The distinction matters: Home Innovation Builders was reported as facing liquidation before its outcome was confirmed, while the later records identify the liquidation date. New Sensation Homes entered administration, a different formal insolvency process.

The same-day timing was also noted in a 2023 federal parliamentary debate.
What was reported about the unfinished home?
Contemporaneous coverage described Home Innovation Builders client Tiarna Nouwland and her husband moving into a 108-square-metre shed on their property at Gabbadah, near Guilderton, while their house remained incomplete. The circumstances were reported by The West Australian and 6PR; they are the family’s reported experience, not a measure of the company’s overall impact on clients.
Rank #2
In the 6PR interview, Nouwland said: “We were promised a very short building time frame. We were expecting that the build would move quiet freely and rapidly, but unfortunately that did not happen.”
A Western Australian parliamentary record from 19 May 2022 later referred to the liquidation and homeowner concerns. It does not, by itself, establish a company-wide count of affected customers or the financial loss of this family.
What caused the builder’s liquidation?
The available reporting does not establish a definitive, company-specific cause or provide an explanation from Home Innovation Builders for its liquidation. It is important not to treat general pressures on the building sector as proof of what happened to this particular company.
Industry coverage at the time described rising labour costs, shortages of labour and materials, supply delays, and cash-flow strain among builders. The Property Tribune also reported that some companies continued taking on work after their pipelines were full. An unnamed former New Sensation Homes worker told The West Australian: “Responsible companies turned off the tap — they filled up the pipeline and didn’t take any more jobs.” That was the former worker’s view about managing intake across the sector, not a verified account of Home Innovation Builders’ decisions.
An ABC News retrospective published in August 2022 described constrained supply chains, rising material and labour costs, and fixed-price contracts as pressures on Australian builders. It included both Home Innovation Builders and New Sensation Homes among failed builders, but national industry conditions do not identify the cause of this company’s liquidation.
