Here’s How Much Starlink Costs in 2026 (and How to Decide If It’s Worth It)

Starlink’s 2026 U.S. residential plans cost $55, $85, or $130 per month, with some orders adding a $10 monthly kit fee. Compare address-specific pricing, Roam options, equipment and installation costs, and local alternatives before deciding if it is worth it.

Starlink’s 2026 U.S. price depends on the plan and on what appears after you enter your service address. The current residential service tiers are $55, $85, and $130 per month, while some new orders add a $10 monthly kit fee instead of charging for the hardware upfront. Starlink’s residential plans and checkout page show the options and price for your address.

That makes the practical starting point about $65 per month before taxes and extras—not simply the advertised $55. Roam plans for RVs, travel, and boats cost $55, $80, or $175 per month, depending on the high-speed data allowance.

Starlink residential prices in 2026

As of August 8, 2026, Starlink’s U.S. residential plans are:

Plan Monthly service Data Advertised speed Approximate monthly total with $10 kit fee Approximate annual total
Residential 100 Mbps $55 Unlimited Up to 100 Mbps $65 $780
Residential 200 Mbps $85 Unlimited Up to 200 Mbps $95 $1,140
Residential Max $130 Unlimited Maximum available residential speeds; up to 400+ Mbps $140 $1,680
Residential Lite Address-specific Unlimited, deprioritized Address-specific Varies Varies

Starlink’s U.S. residential plans list the current tiers and availability. The $65, $95, and $140 figures assume Starlink displays the current $10-per-month kit fee at checkout. Taxes, shipping, accessories, installation, and any local promotion are additional. Starlink does not show every plan or hardware arrangement at every address, so the checkout page for your location is the final price.

What happened to the $599 dish?

Older Starlink cost estimates often begin with a $599 hardware purchase. That is no longer a dependable assumption for a new U.S. residential order. Some customers now see $0 upfront hardware cost plus a $10 monthly kit fee.

With a rented kit, the dish and router remain Starlink’s property. After cancellation, you generally need to return the equipment in good condition within 30 days. Missing the deadline or returning an incomplete or damaged kit can lead to a charge for the kit’s full retail value, according to Starlink’s U.S. Terms of Service.

Do not treat $0 upfront as free equipment. Over three years, the $10 fee adds $360 to your bill. It may still be preferable to paying hundreds of dollars immediately, but it belongs in the long-term cost comparison.

Starlink Roam prices for RVs and travel

Residential service is intended for a fixed service address. If you plan to move the terminal between locations—or use it while traveling—look at Roam instead:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Roam plan Monthly price High-speed data What happens after the allowance
Roam 100GB $55 100 GB Unlimited lower-speed data
Roam 300GB $80 300 GB Unlimited lower-speed data
Roam Unlimited $175 Unlimited Not subject to the 100GB or 300GB allowance

Starlink’s Roam plans show current plan details. “Unlimited” on the 100GB and 300GB plans does not mean unlimited high-speed service. Once the fast-data allowance is used, streaming, large downloads, and video calls may become difficult or impractical. Roam plans may also be paused through Standby Mode, subject to the terms and price shown in your account.

In-motion use is not permitted on Residential plans. Roam and certain priority plans support in-motion service only in authorized locations and under their applicable restrictions, as described in Starlink’s in-motion policy.

The costs beyond the monthly plan

Activation and the first bill

Starlink may charge a one-time activation fee. The amount depends on the plan and kit and appears during checkout. Your first billing event can occur when service is activated or seven days after delivery, whichever comes first, so do not assume you have a full month after delivery before payment begins. See Starlink’s activation-charge guidance and Critical Information Summary.

Taxes, shipping, and accessories

The advertised plan price is not necessarily the amount charged to your card. Budget for sales tax where applicable, shipping, and accessories such as a roof, wall, or pole mount. The included kickstand is suitable for some ground-level installations, but a permanent installation may require additional hardware.

Bundle: for STARLINK Gen 3 Standard Satellite Internet Setup – Advanced Dish - Wi-Fi 6 Router + 150FT Extension Cable – High-Speed, Low-Latency Connection
  • Gen 3 Satellite Dish: Third-generation antenna delivers a stronger, more stable signal and faster performance.
  • Wi-Fi 6 Router: Modern router technology supports faster speeds, increased device capacity, and better efficiency.
  • Extra 150FT Cable Included: Extended reach for more flexible installation in large spaces or hard-to-access locations.
  • High-Speed, Low-Latency Internet: Stream HD content, video conference, or work remotely with confidence.
  • Ideal for Rural and Remote Areas: Perfect for homes, cabins, RVs, boats, and off-grid setups where wired internet isn’t available.

Installation

Starlink is designed for self-installation, but a difficult roof or pole installation can turn a low-cost internet setup into a professional-service bill. Before ordering, price the mount, cable routing, weatherproofing, and labor—not just the dish. Starlink lists the included components in its Standard 4 X specifications.

Electricity

The Standard 4 X kit averages approximately 75 to 100 watts, according to Starlink’s specifications. At 100 watts running continuously, it uses about 72 kilowatt-hours per month:

0.1 kW × 24 hours × 30 days = 72 kWh

Your electricity cost depends on your utility rate and actual use. The cost can be more significant for an off-grid household running Starlink from batteries, a generator, or solar equipment. In that situation, include battery replacement, inverter losses, fuel, or added solar capacity in the calculation.

Residential Lite can be cheaper—but it is not a standard nationwide price

Residential Lite is an address-specific option. It includes unlimited data, but the traffic is deprioritized compared with other fixed residential plans. During busy periods, it can be substantially slower, particularly at peak hours.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because Starlink does not offer it uniformly and displays different prices by market, there is no reliable single nationwide Residential Lite price to use in a budget. Enter your address and compare the displayed price and plan description. Residential Lite is for fixed household use and is not intended for business or enterprise service, according to Starlink’s Residential Service Plan Descriptions.

How much should you budget in the first year?

Using the $10 monthly kit fee and excluding taxes, shipping, installation, accessories, and activation, the baseline annual costs are:

Plan Service for 12 months Kit fees for 12 months Baseline first-year total
Residential 100 Mbps $660 $120 $780
Residential 200 Mbps $1,020 $120 $1,140
Residential Max $1,560 $120 $1,680

These totals are useful for comparing plans, not for predicting the exact first bill. The final amount can include a partial billing period, one-time activation, shipping, tax, and hardware or promotional terms specific to the address.

Which Starlink plan is the best value?

Residential 100 Mbps: the sensible starting point for many homes

Choose the 100 Mbps tier if it is available and your household mainly browses, streams, works remotely, shops online, and makes ordinary video calls. Several people can use those services at once, although actual performance depends on congestion, Wi-Fi coverage, and obstructions.

Residential 200 Mbps: for heavier simultaneous use

The 200 Mbps tier costs $30 more per month than the 100 Mbps plan, or $360 more per year before taxes. That premium may be reasonable for a larger household with several simultaneous video streams, frequent large downloads, or multiple remote workers.

It is not automatically a better deal. If the satellite network at your address is congested, paying for a higher advertised limit cannot guarantee that you will receive 200 Mbps at peak times.

Residential Max: pay for priority, not just a larger number

Residential Max costs $45 more per month than the 200 Mbps plan and $75 more than the 100 Mbps plan. Its main financial justification is the highest residential network priority and the potential for the best available residential performance—not that every user will notice a proportional speed improvement.

For a light-use household, the extra $540 per year over the 200 Mbps tier may buy little practical benefit. Consider it when the address has strong demand, the household routinely needs maximum performance, or reliable capacity is worth the premium.

How to decide whether Starlink is worth it

Compare Starlink with the actual options at the service address, not with a theoretical fiber plan that is unavailable there. Use this all-in formula:

Monthly Starlink cost = service plan + kit fee + taxes + installation or equipment cost spread over time + electricity + accessories

Then ask these questions:

  1. What is the real alternative? Compare the all-in price with fiber, cable, fixed wireless, 5G home internet, or a cellular hotspot available at the property.
  2. Is the current connection costing you money? Frequent outages can create mobile-data charges, missed work, hotel or coworking expenses, or lost business revenue. Those costs belong in the comparison.
  3. Can the property see the sky? Trees, buildings, poles, and rooflines can cause interruptions. Use the Starlink app’s obstruction tool before buying a permanent mount. Starlink says its app can detect most obstructions in less than a day; see its obstruction-map guidance.
  4. Can you tolerate variable performance? Advertised speeds are maximums, not guarantees. Congestion, weather, obstructions, power outages, and home Wi-Fi can all reduce performance.
  5. Will you use it long enough to justify the setup? Include mounting labor and accessories. A temporary or seasonal user should be especially cautious about paying for a complicated installation.

Starlink is usually easiest to justify when the property lacks reliable terrestrial broadband, has an unobstructed view of the sky, needs unlimited data, and can accept variable speeds and latency. It is harder to justify when fiber or high-quality cable costs about the same and provides more consistent service.

Use the trial to test the expensive parts

Starlink advertises a 30-day trial. That can reduce the risk of poor performance, but it does not eliminate every cost or inconvenience. Return the kit within the applicable window and in the required condition to receive the refund. Starlink says it provides a prepaid return label, although initial shipping costs may not be refunded in every case. See its demo and return information.

Test the connection before drilling holes or paying for permanent installation:

  1. Place the dish where it has the clearest practical view of the sky.
  2. Run the app’s obstruction scan and let it collect information over time.
  3. Test during the evening, when local congestion is more likely.
  4. Measure video calls, streaming, uploads, and downloads—not just one speed test.
  5. Check the first bill for activation, taxes, kit fees, and other charges.
  6. Return the equipment promptly if the service does not work for your household.

Managing the subscription

To change a plan on the Starlink website, go to Subscription → Manage → Change Plan. In the app, use Subscription → Manage Subscription → Change Service Plan. Changes need to be made before 12:00 a.m. UTC on the billing day to apply to that billing cycle. See Starlink’s plan-change instructions.

Residential service is tied to its registered service address. On desktop, change it through Subscriptions → select the subscription → Edit in the Service Location section. A move may also expose different plan availability or pricing. See Starlink’s service-address instructions.

Service is month-to-month, but monthly fees paid in advance generally are not refundable outside the applicable return or trial rules. If the kit is rented, keep the original equipment and packaging until you are certain you will keep the service.

FAQ

How much does Starlink cost per month in the U.S. in 2026?

The current residential service prices are $55 per month for Residential 100 Mbps, $85 for Residential 200 Mbps, and $130 for Residential Max. Some new orders add a $10 monthly kit fee, making the approximate pre-tax totals $65, $95, and $140. Check Starlink’s residential plans for the price and availability at your address.

Is Starlink hardware free in 2026?

Some new U.S. residential orders show $0 upfront hardware cost, but add a $10 monthly kit fee. The kit remains Starlink’s property and generally must be returned within 30 days after cancellation. Your address-specific checkout page controls the actual arrangement.

Is Starlink Roam unlimited?

Roam Unlimited includes unlimited high-speed data. Roam 100GB and Roam 300GB provide those amounts of high-speed data, then continue with unlimited lower-speed data. The slower service may not work well for streaming, large downloads, or video calls.

Is Starlink worth the money?

It can be worthwhile where fiber, cable, fixed wireless, and usable 5G home internet are unavailable or unreliable. Compare the complete cost—including the kit fee, taxes, installation, accessories, and electricity—and test for obstructions and evening congestion before committing to a permanent installation.

The Bottom Line

For a new U.S. residential customer in 2026, budget roughly $65 to $140 per month before taxes and one-time costs if the $10 kit fee applies. Residential 100 Mbps is the value-oriented choice, 200 Mbps can make sense for heavier households, and Max is a premium option rather than a default upgrade.

Starlink’s value depends less on its headline speed than on what is available at your address. If reliable terrestrial broadband is absent and the dish has a clear sky view, the cost may be justified. If fiber or cable is available at a similar price, compare consistency and total ownership cost before choosing the satellite connection.
