HELM Agro US Launches Reviton Herbicide: What Growers Need to Know

HELM Agro US announced Reviton herbicide’s launch on October 12, 2020, after receiving federal registration ahead of the 2021 season. The product is a contact, Group 14 PPO-inhibiting herbicide intended for burndown and other label-specific uses. HELM’s current product information identifies its active ingredient as tiafenacil; the 2020 launch announcement used the name Tergeo. Actual permitted uses depend on the current federal label and applicable state registrations.

When did HELM launch Reviton?

HELM announced the product name on July 15, 2020, while it was still under U.S. Environmental Protection Agency review. That announcement described a preliminary set of possible uses and cautioned that final label-approved uses could differ. On October 12, 2020, HELM said federal registration had been received and announced the product ahead of the 2021 growing season. The timeline is important: the 2020 launch announcement does not establish where Reviton is registered or available today. State registrations can affect whether a pesticide may be sold or used in a particular location.

HELM said the molecule was discovered by Farm Hannong and described its U.S. commercial development as a collaboration with Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd. (ISK). The company said it and ISK had a long-term collaboration for that development.

What is Reviton herbicide?

Reviton is a suspension concentrate herbicide that HELM describes as a non-selective PPO inhibitor for preplant burndown and desiccation. Its current product specifications list tiafenacil as the active ingredient and identify the mode of action as Group 14. “Tergeo” was the ingredient name or branding used in HELM’s 2020 launch-era announcement; tiafenacil is the active ingredient name on the current product page.

HELM says the product works by contact with green plant tissue, rather than as a soil-residual herbicide. That distinction helps explain its role, but does not determine whether an application is appropriate for a particular crop or field. Consult the product label for authorized application timing, restrictions, and directions.

What crops and application types does HELM list?

HELM’s current product page lists these primary crop categories: barley, canola, field corn, popcorn, sweet corn, cotton, grain sorghum, dry peas, peanuts, soybeans, and wheat. It describes application categories including preplant, preemergence, post-direct cotton, desiccation, and defoliation.

These are manufacturer-page summaries, not a replacement for the EPA-approved label or applicable state supplemental labels. Crop names alone do not show whether a specific use, timing, rate, or application method is permitted in a grower’s state. Check the current labels and state registration information before use.

What weeds does Reviton control?

HELM’s current product page claims control or suppression of more than 50 weeds and names examples including waterhemp, chickweed, lambsquarters, ragweed, henbit, foxtails, and volunteer corn. Its October 2020 launch announcement described control ratings for more than 50 broadleaf and grass weeds, including species resistant to ALS, triazine, and glyphosate herbicides. These are HELM’s product claims, not independent comparative findings. The label determines which weeds are listed and the directions for each crop and use.

What efficacy and formulation figures did HELM report?

In its October 2020 announcement, HELM said Reviton had been evaluated in more than 700 North American product-development trials and regulatory studies. The announcement also described the herbicide as fast-acting, with effects occurring within 24 hours after application. HELM’s later grower FAQ describes visible effects within 24–72 hours under actively growing conditions. Neither statement guarantees a result in every field; observed performance depends on conditions and label-compliant use.

The same 2020 announcement reported a concentration of 2.83 pounds of active ingredient per gallon in the suspension concentrate. HELM’s current product page also advertises control or suppression of 50-plus weeds. These figures and claims are attributed to the manufacturer and should not be read as independently verified performance comparisons.

What should growers check before applying it?

  • Confirm the location and use: Check the current federal product label, any applicable supplemental labels, and state registration information for the intended crop, site, timing, and application method.
  • Follow label-specific directions: Rates, permitted tank mixtures, intervals, and restrictions vary by use. Do not generalize a rate or mix instruction from one crop or situation to another.
  • Use only an authorized adjuvant: HELM’s grower FAQ says an adjuvant at label-approved rates is needed and identifies methylated seed oil (MSO) adjuvants as preferred. The label governs which products and rates are permitted.
  • Plan weed management beyond one product: Reviton should not be treated as a complete resistance-management plan by itself. Build a program around label fit, target weeds, mode of action, timing, residual needs, plant-back intervals, and local agronomic guidance.

HELM directs growers to local representatives or retailers for product and adjuvant guidance. Because Reviton is an agricultural pesticide, this information is not a recommendation for homeowner use.

What HELM said at launch

In the October 12, 2020 launch announcement, then-HELM Agro US President Dave Schumacher said: “With EPA approval granted ahead of the 2021 season, growers have a new product to add to their weed control toolbox which will allow them to be more successful when combatting troublesome weeds and resistance issues.” The same release quoted Schumacher calling Reviton “truly breakthrough technology”—the company president’s promotional characterization, not an independent assessment.
