That is an estimated difference of 293,000 copies, or about 46% more on Xbox. These are third-party estimates for two separate launch windows—not official unit counts or a comparison of lifetime sales.
What the first-six-day estimates show
| Platform | Launch window | Estimated copies | Attribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | First six days after the August 26, 2025 release | 926,000 | Alinea Analytics estimate, relayed by Insider Gaming and quoted by Windows Central |
| PlayStation 5 | First six days after the February 2024 release | 633,000 | Alinea Analytics estimate, relayed by Insider Gaming and quoted by Windows Central |
The subtraction—926,000 minus 633,000—produces a 293,000-copy gap. Relative to the PlayStation estimate, the Xbox estimate is about 46% higher. Both calculations are derived from Alinea Analytics’ reported estimates; they are not separately published sales figures.
Who reported the numbers, and how certain are they?
Insider Gaming reported the figures on September 4, 2025, attributing them to Alinea Insight, Alinea Analytics’ newsletter. Windows Central reproduced the newsletter’s comparison, including the wording that Xbox had reached 926,000 copies six days after launch and that PlayStation had sold 633,000 in its first six days the previous year. (Windows Central; Insider Gaming)
Neither cited report supplies the underlying sales dataset or a transparent method for producing the estimates. They should therefore be described as Alinea Analytics estimates, not audited sales or figures confirmed by Sony or Microsoft. Windows Central notes that analytics firms generally do not publish their exact sales-estimation methods.

Why the comparison needs context
The Xbox version launched on August 26, 2025, about 18 months after Helldivers 2 arrived on PlayStation 5 and PC in February 2024. The figures compare each platform’s opening six days in different years and market conditions; they do not compare sales on the same dates, total sales across platforms, or lifetime sales. The estimates alone cannot establish which platform ultimately sold more copies.
Possible reasons for the Xbox opening
Alinea’s quoted explanation pointed to pent-up demand among Xbox players who had waited for the game. Analyst Rhys Elliott also cited the Halo ODST-themed content as a timely crossover. These are interpretations of the launch, not proven causes of the estimated sales. (Windows Central)

What Sony said later
In a statement quoted from its Q2 FY2025 report, Sony said the Xbox release was “doing extremely well,” attracting new Xbox users and increasing engagement among existing PS5 and PC users. Sony also said the release contributed to a significant year-on-year increase in sales of the title. That broad assessment supports the view that the Xbox release performed well, but it does not confirm Alinea’s specific platform-by-platform estimates. (Windows Central)
