HBO Max’s October 2025 U.S. price increase raised monthly plan prices by $1 to $2, depending on the tier. It was not the service’s first increase: TechCrunch reported that HBO Max had raised prices previously in June 2024. Current U.S. prices are $10.99 to $22.99 per month, before applicable taxes.
How much does HBO Max cost now?
HBO Max’s official U.S. plan page lists the following prices. Annual plans are described as 16% savings compared with paying monthly for 12 months; taxes may apply.

How much did HBO Max raise prices in October 2025?
TechCrunch reported on October 21, 2025, that all three U.S. tiers increased. Monthly prices rose by $1 for Basic with Ads, $1.50 for Standard, and $2 for Premium. Annual prices rose by $10, $15, and $20, respectively.

These are the changes reported for the October 2025 U.S. increase, not a forecast of any later change. TechCrunch’s October 21, 2025 report said new subscribers paid the higher rates immediately, while existing subscribers moved to the new price on their first billing cycle on or after November 20, 2025.
Was this HBO Max’s first price increase?
No. The title’s “for the first time” wording is historically inaccurate. TechCrunch reported that the previous HBO Max price increase was in June 2024, before the October 2025 change.

Which HBO Max plan makes sense for your household?
Choose Basic with Ads if price matters most
Basic with Ads is the lowest-cost listed option. It permits two simultaneous streams and Full HD 1080p, but includes ads and does not list downloads or live sports among its features.
Consider Standard for downloads and live sports
Standard costs $7.50 more per month than Basic with Ads at the listed prices. It keeps the two-stream, Full HD limit and adds 30 downloads and live sports. That difference may be worthwhile if you use downloads or want sports access, but it does not add more simultaneous streams or higher stated video resolution.

Pay for Premium when its limits matter
Premium is the only listed tier with four simultaneous streams for general viewing, up to 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos where available, and 100 downloads. Sports are limited to two simultaneous streams. Those features matter most when multiple people watch at once or when your equipment and content support the higher formats.
HBO Max says annual plans save 16% versus 12 monthly payments. An annual plan can lower the effective cost if you expect to keep the same tier for the year, but it trades monthly flexibility for an upfront commitment.

Why did Warner Bros. Discovery say it raised prices?
At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said, as quoted by TechCrunch, “The fact that this is quality — and that’s true across our company, motion picture, TV production, and streaming quality — we all think that gives us a chance to raise prices,” and added, “We think we’re way underpriced.” These remarks express the company’s view of its pricing, not an independent measure of whether the service is worth the new price.
In its Q1 2026 shareholder letter, Warner Bros. Discovery said the Q4 2025 U.S. price increase helped support streaming revenue acceleration and that it continued to see limited churn impact from the increase. That is the company’s assessment; it does not independently establish that the increase caused the revenue change or that subscribers broadly accepted it. Warner Bros. Discovery’s investor relations site publishes its shareholder communications.
