No. The claim that the government approved or released a ₹41,000 annual bonus for railway employees for FY 2025–26 is false. News On AIR reported on 8 October 2026 that the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check Unit confirmed a purported Railway Board letter making the claim was fake and had not been issued by the Board. The figure in the forged notice was ₹41,149, according to a reproduced Railway Board denial.
What the fake letter claimed
A purported notice dated 6 October 2026 claimed that railway employees would receive a 78-day Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) of ₹41,149 for FY 2025–26. It circulated under the claimed reference “RBE No. 101/2026.” The Railway Board denial, reproduced by Govt Staff, says the letter was fabricated, carried a forged signature and was unauthorized. It instructed offices not to act on it or make payments based on it.

The latest confirmed annual PLB announcement identified here is for FY 2024–25, not FY 2025–26. On 24 September 2025, the Cabinet approved a 78-day PLB totaling ₹1,865.68 crore for 1,091,146 railway employees. The Ministry of Railways said the maximum payable amount was ₹17,951 per eligible employee.

The announcement covered non-gazetted employees and listed roles including track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers, station masters, supervisors, technicians, pointsmen and ministerial staff, as well as other Group C staff. These figures and terms belong to the FY 2024–25 decision; they do not establish a bonus for the following financial year.
| Claim or decision | Financial year | Status | Amount and period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cabinet PLB announcement, 24 September 2025 | FY 2024–25 | Approved | 78 days; maximum ₹17,951 per eligible employee |
| Purported Railway Board letter dated 6 October 2026 | FY 2025–26 | Fake; not issued by the Railway Board, according to PIB Fact Check as reported by News On AIR on 8 October 2026 | Claimed 78 days and ₹41,149; not an approved payment |
How railway PLB works
Productivity Linked Bonus is an annual incentive tied to railway performance. The Ministry’s FY 2024–25 announcement said eligible employees would receive it before the Durga Puja/Dussehra holidays. The applicable year’s official decision sets the payment and terms; an earlier year’s figures should not be treated as a new approval.

A 2021 PIB background release says the PLB scheme began in 1979–80. For FY 2020–21, it described eligible non-gazetted railway employees as covered, excluding Railway Protection Force and Railway Protection Special Force personnel. That year’s release also cited a ₹7,000 monthly wage calculation ceiling and a maximum ₹17,951 for 78 days. Those are FY 2020–21 details, not confirmed FY 2025–26 terms.

How to check a railway bonus notice
- Check the financial year and date on the notice; a confirmed PLB for one year does not prove a payment for another.
- Look for the announcement on official Ministry of Railways or Railway Board channels. The reproduced denial advises offices to verify communications through those official websites.
- Do not rely on a circulated letter or its reference number alone. The PIB Fact Check Unit, as reported by News On AIR, said this purported letter was not issued by the Railway Board.
