Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler’s 1996 golf comedy, was reported at No. 6 on Netflix’s most-watched chart for the week ending July 21, 2025—just before the sequel arrived. Netflix released Happy Gilmore 2 on July 25, 2025, and reported that it drew 46.7 million views in its first three days. The “$41M” figure in the original headline is not verified by the available reporting, so it should not be treated as an established box-office or production-budget figure.
Why did Happy Gilmore return to Netflix’s chart?
The original film’s No. 6 ranking was reported for the week ending July 21, 2025, before Happy Gilmore 2 premiered. Its appearance on the chart came amid renewed attention around the sequel, but the ranking is a dated result—not evidence that the original remains high on Netflix’s charts today.

Netflix’s weekly rankings cover a defined reporting period. The original’s position and the sequel’s later performance therefore describe different points in time, rather than a direct head-to-head comparison.
How did Happy Gilmore 2 perform at launch?
The sequel premiered on Netflix on July 25, 2025. Netflix reported 46.7 million views during its first three days and said it was the biggest opening for an Adam Sandler Netflix film at that time. Netflix also placed it at No. 1 on its English Film List for the week of July 21–27, 2025.

Separately, Variety reported that Nielsen measured 2.9 billion viewing minutes for the sequel during that same July 21–27 week. These figures use different measurement systems: Netflix’s views count and Nielsen’s viewing minutes are not interchangeable, and neither figure establishes the films’ current rankings.
What does the “$41M” headline claim mean?
The available reporting does not verify the $41 million figure or identify whether it refers to box-office receipts, a production budget, or something else. Without a reliable source and a clearly defined measure, it should not be presented as a fact about Happy Gilmore.
