The deadline to apply for the High Court of Gujarat’s 2023 recruitment of approximately 193 Civil Judges was 14 April 2023 at 11:59 p.m. The application window is closed, and the High Court’s results archive lists a select list for this recruitment. This is a historical notice, not an open application call; later vacancies require a separate notice.
What the 2023 notice offered
Advertisement RC/0719/2023 invited applications for approximately 193 regular Civil Judge vacancies. The High Court reserved the right to change the vacancy count. Its category breakdown was:
| Category | Vacancies stated in the 2023 notice |
|---|---|
| General | 98 |
| Scheduled Castes | 14 |
| Scheduled Tribes | 29 |
| Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) | 52 |
| Differently abled candidates | 8 horizontal vacancies |
The advertised pay scale was ₹77,840–₹1,36,520, as admissible under the applicable rules. It is the scale stated in the 2023 advertisement, not a guarantee of current pay for a later recruitment. See the official recruitment advertisement for its vacancy and pay provisions.
Eligibility requirements in the 2023 advertisement
Eligibility depended on the candidate’s work route as well as education and language requirements. The rules below describe this recruitment only.
#1 Best Overall
Advocate route
Applicants needed a law degree from a university recognized by law in India and generally had to be practicing advocates in civil and/or criminal courts by the application deadline. For degrees from academic year 2009–10 onward, the notice required candidates to have cleared the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) to be treated as practicing advocates. Candidates awaiting AIBE XVII results could register only by giving the required undertaking; failure to clear it before the viva voce or document verification would result in rejection.
Court and allied-department employee route
The advertisement also provided an eligibility route for employees of the High Court or its allied departments, subject to the notice’s conditions. Applicants relying on this route needed to meet the prescribed service and qualification requirements; the applicable age relaxation differed from the general advocate route.
Rank #2
Gujarati and computer requirements
Candidates needed Gujarati proficiency unless they had passed both Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations with Gujarati at the specified higher level. Passing Gujarati as a single subject through an open school or board did not qualify for this exemption. The notice also required an eligible certificate showing basic computer knowledge.
Age limits and application fees
The following age limits and fees were set for the 2023 process. They should not be assumed to apply to a later recruitment.

Age limits
- The upper age limit was 35 for General-category candidates.
- The limit was 38 for the listed SC, ST, SEBC, qualifying differently abled candidates meeting the notice’s locomotor-disability threshold, and ex-servicemen.
- Court and allied-department employees had a service-based relaxation subject to a stated ceiling of 40 years. The notice also provided an additional one-year upper-age relaxation for this recruitment.
Fees and payment method
| Candidate category | Application fee stated in the 2023 notice |
|---|---|
| General | ₹1,000 plus bank charges |
| Listed SC, ST, SEBC, qualifying differently abled candidates, and ex-servicemen | ₹500 plus bank charges |
Payment was through SBI e-Pay, either online or by cash challan. The fee was non-refundable.
Selection stages, exam format and schedule
The selection process comprised a preliminary elimination test, a Gujarati language test for candidates who did not qualify for the school-level Gujarati exemption, a descriptive main examination and an oral interview.
Preliminary and Gujarati language tests
The preliminary test was a two-hour, 100-mark multiple-choice examination. The advertisement stated: “The Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) shall be of 100 Marks, the duration whereof will be 02 Hours, consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) each of 01 Mark with Negative Marking of 0.33 Mark for each Wrong / Multiple Answer.” Candidates needed at least 50% in the preliminary test to meet its threshold. Candidates required to take the Gujarati language paper needed at least 40% in it to progress.
The preliminary syllabus covered criminal and civil statutes, Gujarat-specific laws, general knowledge, English, reasoning, numerical and mental ability, and basic computer applications. The Gujarati paper applied to candidates without the specified school-level Gujarati qualification.

Where to check current Gujarat High Court vacancies
The High Court’s official results archive lists a select list for Civil Judge recruitment RC/0719/2023. That listing confirms a select list was published; it does not establish that all 193 advertised posts were filled.
For opportunities that are open now, use the High Court’s current openings page and read the specific notice carefully. A later recruitment, including the separate 2024–25 Civil Judge process listed by the court, has its own dates, eligibility conditions and examination rules. Do not use the 2023 deadline, syllabus or age limits to judge eligibility for a newer notice.
