The acquisition paired a consumer-facing online grocery business with a company focused increasingly on food distribution and supply-chain services.
When did GrubMarket acquire Good Eggs?
TechCrunch reported the acquisition on August 6, 2024. GrubMarket’s own announcement, listed August 7, said the acquisition had been completed. The dates refer to the publication of the report and the company announcement, respectively.
Good Eggs was an Oakland-based online grocery service. GrubMarket described it as offering groceries and prepared foods to consumers, including produce, dairy, meat, seafood, pantry staples, prepared meals and artisanal goods.
What were the financial terms?
GrubMarket did not disclose an official purchase price in its announcement. TechCrunch reported, based on sources familiar with the transaction, that the deal was all-stock and valued Good Eggs slightly above its previous $22 million valuation. That is attributed reporting about the deal’s value, not a disclosed purchase price or independently verified valuation.

What did Good Eggs bring to GrubMarket?
In its announcement, GrubMarket said Good Eggs operated a warehouse of more than 125,000 square feet and offered more than 7,000 products. It also said that over 70% of Good Eggs’ products were sourced within 250 miles of distribution. These operational figures and sourcing claims come from the acquiring company.
GrubMarket’s announcement presented Good Eggs’ local sourcing, sustainability focus, grocery assortment and customer base as strengths. Good Eggs CEO Rodrigo Arévalo described the combination as a way to expand the company’s food-system mission, citing GrubMarket’s technology, supply network and operational capabilities. Those statements explain the companies’ stated rationale; they do not independently establish environmental or operational outcomes.

Why was the acquisition strategically significant?
TechCrunch’s contemporaneous account described GrubMarket as having shifted toward business-to-business distribution, while Good Eggs remained focused on consumers. The deal therefore brought together a food supply-chain and distribution company with an established consumer-facing grocery service. TechCrunch reported that GrubMarket saw its scale as an opportunity to revisit direct-to-consumer grocery delivery.
After the acquisition, TechCrunch reported that Keith Brewer, formerly chief operating officer of GrubMarket-owned Daylight Foods, would lead Good Eggs. This was the leadership arrangement reported at the time of the deal.

Did Good Eggs become profitable?
In a March 2025 TechCrunch report, GrubMarket CEO Mike Xu said Good Eggs had become profitable after the acquisition. This is an executive’s reported statement, not an audited standalone financial result in that report. It provides a later update on the company’s performance, but does not by itself establish the details or durability of profitability.
