The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, posted a General Provident Fund (GPF) and similar-funds rate notice for October–December 2026 on 5 October 2026. The official listing confirms the notice exists, but the available listing does not show its rate. It therefore does not establish whether the Finance Ministry kept 7.1% or changed it.

What is confirmed for the October–December 2026 quarter?

October–December 2026 is the third quarter (Q3) of India’s financial year 2026–27. The DEA listing identifies a resolution titled “Rate of Interest on General Provident Fund (GPF) and other similar funds for Q-3 of FY 2026-27,” dated 5 October 2026. The listing’s available text does not include the notified rate, and the full resolution could not be retrieved. Check the DEA Budget Division listing for the official notice and its rate text.

Because the rate text is not available in that listing extract, it is not possible to verify from the official material cited here whether the Q3 rate is 7.1% or a different figure. The existence and date of the notice are confirmed; the interest rate is not.

Why 7.1% does not answer the new-quarter question

The Ministry’s earlier resolution set GPF and other similar-fund interest at 7.1% for 1 January through 31 March 2026. That is the rate for the fourth quarter of FY 2025–26, not for October–December 2026. Its notice states that the 7.1% rate applied “w.e.f. 1st January, 2026 to 31st March, 2026.” Read the earlier official resolution.

The DEA listing treats quarter-specific GPF notices separately: it shows a Q2 FY 2026–27 notice dated 13 July 2026 and the Q3 notice dated 5 October 2026. A prior quarter’s rate should not be carried forward as the current rate unless the Q3 resolution itself confirms it.

How to verify the notified rate

  1. Open the DEA Budget Division listing and locate the entry for “Rate of Interest on General Provident Fund (GPF) and other similar funds for Q-3 of FY 2026-27,” dated 5 October 2026.
  2. Open the resolution and check the sentence that names the annual interest rate and the period for which it applies. Confirm that the effective dates are 1 October through 31 December 2026.
  3. Use that Q3 rate for the October–December quarter. Do not use the 7.1% figure from the separate January–March 2026 resolution as confirmation of the Q3 rate.

Which funds does the notice cover?

The Q3 listing title refers to GPF “and other similar funds,” but the available listing text does not provide the detailed covered-funds list. Check the full resolution before assuming that a particular fund is included; the listing title alone does not establish every scheme covered.

Keep GPF notices distinct from small-savings rates

The DEA listing presents GPF rate resolutions separately from notices for Small Savings Schemes. They are separate notifications and should not be treated as one product or used interchangeably when checking a GPF subscriber’s applicable rate.
