Google announced Gemini 3.7 Flash on August 13, 2026, with a temporary standard paid API price of $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens through December 31, 2026. Those rates double on January 1, 2027. The lower unit price may help businesses control AI costs, but it does not show what a completed task will cost: output volume, retries, tool use, and whether the model gets the job right all matter.
What Google announced
Google describes Gemini 3.7 Flash as a workhorse model for coding and agents, and says it improves software engineering, knowledge work, web development, and multi-step execution. The announcement is dated August 13, 2026. Those are Google’s positioning and capability claims, not a guarantee that the model will be the best or cheapest choice for every workload. Google lists developer access through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio, Antigravity, and Android Studio, as well as enterprise access through Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform and Gemini Enterprise. It also says Gemini Spark is available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in supported countries. Availability therefore depends on the product, subscription, and country; the announcement does not establish universal access.
How much does Gemini 3.7 Flash cost?
Google’s Gemini Developer API pricing page lists these standard paid-tier rates as of October 4, 2026. The introductory rates expire at the end of 2026; the later prices take effect January 1, 2027. Gemini Developer API pricing

| Output | $3.75 per 1 million tokens | $7.50 per 1 million tokens |
Google described the launch price as “half the original 3.6 Flash cost per million tokens.” In practical terms, treat that as a temporary schedule: the pricing page specifies the end date and the higher rates that follow. The page also lists separate batch, flex, and priority pricing, plus cache and storage entries. These are not interchangeable with the standard paid rates in the table, so check the applicable tier and terms before estimating a bill.
The pricing page describes paid-tier access as excluding content use to improve Google’s products and free-tier access as allowing such use. Review the current terms for the access path you plan to use; this distinction should not be generalized into a broader privacy comparison.

Is Gemini 3.7 Flash cheaper than Gemini 3.6 Flash?
At launch, Google said Gemini 3.7 Flash’s introductory API price was half the original Gemini 3.6 Flash cost per million tokens. That comparison describes token rates, not the full expense of using either model. A task that requires long outputs, repeated attempts, or additional tool calls can cost more than its input-token rate suggests. A lower rate can also be poor value if the model fails more often and needs human correction or another model to finish the work.
For a meaningful comparison, estimate the cost per successfully completed task on your own workload. Track input and output tokens, retries, tool calls, and the proportion of tasks completed to an agreed quality standard. Compare the same task, success criteria, and service tier across models.
What Google’s benchmark results show—and what they do not
Google reported higher Gemini 3.7 Flash scores than Gemini 3.6 Flash on several evaluations in its 2026 announcement. These are vendor-reported results, not independent findings, and they do not establish that Gemini 3.7 Flash leads on every kind of work.
| Evaluation | Gemini 3.7 Flash | Gemini 3.6 Flash |
|---|---|---|
| FrontierCode 1.1 Main | 43.6% | 34.4% |
| DeepSWE v1.1 | 65.3% | 49.0% |
| Arena.ai WebDev Arena | 1,588 Elo | 1,538 Elo |
| GDP.pdf | 34.0% | 22.0% |
| AutomationBench | 30.4% | 17.0% |
Benchmarks can help narrow a shortlist, but a company’s own tasks may differ in data, complexity, failure costs, and acceptable response time. Why cheaper tokens may not lower a company’s AI bill
Lower rates reduce the price of each token, but they do not by themselves control how many tokens a company uses or how often it repeats work. Axios reported on September 22, 2026, that cheaper model releases and price cuts were spreading across the AI industry, while noting the economic tension: lower unit prices can encourage more usage, so aggregate spending need not fall. Axios on falling model prices
The Associated Press reported on July 27, 2026, that some companies were concerned about AI costs rising without comparable productivity gains. One response it described is model routing: sending simpler questions to less expensive models and more complex work to more capable ones. That can be part of cost management, but it works only if the cheaper route still meets the task’s quality and reliability requirements. Associated Press report on AI costs

Axios reported on August 26, 2026, that Google Cloud was adding pay-as-you-go Gemini Enterprise access alongside per-seat subscriptions, monthly project budgets that can pause agent API calls when exhausted, and no spending minimum. It also reported committed-spend discounts of 10% for one year or 20% for three years. The same report described an off-peak task feature with discounts up to 50% as forthcoming; its current availability is not established here. Quick Recap
How to decide whether the lower rate fits your workload
- Define success before testing. Specify what a correct result looks like, how much human review is acceptable, and what failure would cost. Use representative tasks rather than a generic benchmark alone.
- Compare like with like. Record the model, service tier, effective price date, and access route. Separate standard API usage from batch, flex, priority, enterprise, or subscription access.
- Measure complete task cost. Include input and output tokens, retries, tool calls, and any human correction needed. Calculate cost for successful completion, not just cost per million tokens.
- Test routing and guardrails. If simpler work can go to a cheaper model, measure how often it succeeds and how often it must be escalated. Set project budgets or usage limits where available, and decide what should happen when a limit is reached.
- Recheck the economics over time. The introductory standard rates end December 31, 2026. Recalculate using the scheduled rates after January 1, 2027, and account for any different tier or discount rather than assuming the launch price continues.
