Google announced an investment of approximately US$15 billion over five years, from 2026 through 2030, to build its first AI hub in India in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh. The company reported breaking ground on April 28, 2026, so the project is under construction—not yet an operating data center hub. The investment is a multi-year commitment, not money already spent. Google’s 2025 announcement and April 2026 update describe the planned scale and infrastructure.
Where is Google building the AI hub, and what is its status?
The site is Visakhapatnam, commonly called Vizag, in Andhra Pradesh. Google said it broke ground there on April 28, 2026. That marks the start of construction; the company has not said in the cited update that the hub is operational.
Google first announced the project in October 2025. It is described as the company’s first AI hub in India and its largest investment in the country to date. The location and construction milestone are confirmed by Google’s April 28, 2026 update.
How much is Google investing, and over what period?
Google announced approximately US$15 billion over five years, covering 2026–2030. That is the announced investment commitment; it should not be read as a sum already spent or as a disclosed annual spending schedule. In its October 14, 2025 announcement, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian called it the company’s largest investment in India to date. Google’s announcement does not break the total into yearly amounts.

What is planned for the data center campuses?
Google’s April 2026 update describes three data center campuses and nearly 1 GW of capacity at a single location. These figures describe the project’s planned scale, not capacity already built or available to customers. The nearly 1 GW characterization was made by Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Group, in the Google-hosted update. Google’s October 2025 announcement had described the hub as gigawatt-scale compute. Google’s project update
The announcement does not provide a commissioning schedule or say when the campuses will reach that scale. The distinction matters: a planned capacity figure is not the same as operating power capacity or compute currently serving users.
What infrastructure is included beyond the campuses?
The plan extends beyond buildings and servers. Google describes fiber expansion and a new international subsea gateway that would bring cables to Visakhapatnam, complementing existing cable landings around Mumbai and Chennai. It also outlines energy transmission, clean-energy generation, and storage initiatives intended to support the hub. Those are described as plans and intended infrastructure, not completed assets or independently measured results. Google’s 2025 announcement and Adani Enterprises’ partnership announcement describe the connectivity and energy elements.
Google’s April update also refers to clean energy and storage in the context of India’s national target of 500 GW of non-fossil-fuel capacity by 2030. That 500 GW figure is a national goal, not a capacity contribution promised by this project. Google additionally lists community initiatives such as watershed management, ecosystem restoration, and drinking-water systems; the update describes these as initiatives, not completed outcomes.
Which companies are involved?
Google’s April 2026 update names AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel as partners. Adani Enterprises’ October 2025 announcement describes its partnership through AdaniConneX with Google on the campus and green-energy infrastructure. These announcements establish the named partners and their described roles; they do not provide a complete breakdown of ownership, financing, or contractual responsibilities. How many jobs and how much state revenue are projected?
A Press Information Bureau release dated October 14, 2025, attributes estimates to Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar. He projected 5,000–6,000 direct jobs, 20,000–30,000 total jobs, and approximately ₹10,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh. These are government-reported estimates, not guaranteed job counts or revenue already received by the state. Press Information Bureau release

The release does not establish how the total-job estimate is divided between direct employment and other jobs, or when the projected state revenue would accrue. The figures should therefore be treated as projections rather than a forecast with a stated timetable or independently verified outcome.

The confirmed milestones are an announced five-year investment, a Vizag location, and a reported groundbreaking. The three-campus configuration, nearly 1 GW scale, connectivity, and energy plans describe the intended project, while job and revenue numbers are attributed estimates. The cited announcements do not establish a completion date, current operating capacity, yearly investment totals, or realized employment and revenue.
