Yes—but Google Sites is not an e-commerce platform. It can provide your storefront’s pages, product content and marketing, while a separate service handles the cart, checkout, payments, inventory, tax, shipping and orders. The practical setup is a Google Sites website connected to a hosted payment link, store widget or dedicated external storefront.
Use the nine-step process below to choose the right model, build the site, connect commerce safely and test the complete customer journey.
What Google Sites can—and cannot—do
Google Sites can create home, product, service, FAQ and policy pages; display images, prices and testimonials; collect inquiries with Google Forms; link visitors to checkout pages; and embed external URLs or HTML, CSS and JavaScript through Insert → Embed. The documented workflow is described by Google’s Sites help.
It does not natively provide product variants, stock control, a shopping cart, payment processing, customer accounts, order management, refunds, discount logic, shipping-rate calculation or tax calculation. Those functions belong to the external commerce provider.

In other words, “Google Sites e-commerce” means Google Sites as the presentation layer plus another platform as the commerce system of record. Prices, stock, payment state, refunds, customer data and fulfillment status should be maintained in that provider’s dashboard.
Choose the right commerce model first

Use payment links for simple selling
Choose a hosted payment link when you sell one to five fixed-price items, services, consultations, deposits or donations and can handle fulfillment manually. PayPal’s Payment Links are designed to accept payments without a conventional online store. Fees, currencies and eligibility vary by country, account and transaction type.
Use a catalog platform for a real cart
Ecwid is intended for adding products, categories, variants, inventory and checkout to an existing website. Its Google Sites integration guidance describes widgets, Buy Now buttons, an Instant Site and subdomain options.
Use a dedicated store when commerce is the business
Shopify, Square Online, WooCommerce and similar platforms are better when you need staff access, advanced shipping, customer accounts, marketing automation, point-of-sale synchronization or extensive analytics. Google Sites can remain an informational site, but it should not be forced to act as the operational store.

Build the store in nine steps
1. Decide what you are selling and how complex fulfillment is
List your products or services and answer these questions before designing pages:
- How many items and variants will you offer?
- Do you need stock quantities, back-order rules or multiple staff members?
- Will orders be shipped, collected locally, delivered, downloaded or scheduled?
- Do customers need accounts, coupons, subscriptions or abandoned-cart recovery?
- Will taxes depend on the buyer’s location or product category?
A single payment button and a 200-SKU retail catalog are different projects. Select the commerce platform based on operational needs, not merely on whether its widget can appear on a page.
2. Create or prepare the Google Site
Open Google Sites, create a new site or open an existing one, then add clear navigation for Home, Shop or Store, About, Contact, FAQ, Shipping and Returns, Privacy and Terms as appropriate. Do not hide the purchase path on an unlinked page.

Publish the site for public visitors. Google Drive files and other embedded content also need sharing permissions that allow visitors to view them; otherwise the owner may see content in the editor that customers cannot access.
3. Design the store page as a sales and trust page
For every product, show a clear name, primary image, price and currency, benefit-focused description, specifications, variants, availability, delivery information, returns information and a prominent purchase action. For services, replace shipping details with the service area, appointment process, turnaround time, cancellation policy and what happens after payment.
Keep detailed commerce logic in the external platform. Google Sites should explain the offer and build confidence, not pretend to be the inventory or checkout database.
4. Prepare product data before integrating anything

5. Choose and open the commerce provider
Create the merchant account, complete identity and business verification, connect a payout bank account and confirm which countries and currencies are supported.
Ecwid: appropriate for retaining Google Sites while adding a catalog and cart. Ecwid describes widget, Buy Now, Instant Site and subdomain integrations, but also documents limitations in embedded Google Sites stores.

PayPal Payment Links: practical for individual products, services, deposits and donations, but not a substitute for a catalog and inventory system.
6. Configure products and commerce settings outside Google Sites
- Add products and variants.
- Set prices, currency and selling regions.
- Configure inventory and out-of-stock behavior.
- Set shipping, pickup or delivery methods.
- Configure taxes for the locations and product types you serve.
- Set payment methods, customer emails, refunds and return rules.
- Run a provider-supported test order.
Tax and shipping settings depend on seller location, buyer location, product category and fulfillment model. Verify your configuration with the relevant tax authority or a qualified adviser rather than assuming one universal rule.

Payment button or checkout link
- Create the product or payment link in the commerce service.
- Copy the button code or checkout URL.
- Open the Google Sites product page.
- Select Insert → Embed.
- Choose By URL or Embed code, insert the content and resize it.
- Publish, then test as a logged-out visitor.
Embedded store widget
Generate the provider’s widget code and use Insert → Embed → Embed code. JavaScript belongs inside <script> tags and CSS inside <style> tags. Some providers block framing, and a widget can be constrained by the Google Sites frame.
Full-page embed
In the editor, choose Pages → Add new page → Full page embed, enter the storefront URL and publish. This provides more room than a small content block but remains an embedded experience.
External storefront or subdomain
Add a Store navigation item that links to the provider’s storefront. A structure such as www.example.com for Google Sites and store.example.com for the commerce platform keeps branding connected while giving checkout a normal top-level browser window.
Linking or using a subdomain is often safer than forcing a complete store into an iframe. Ecwid notes that standalone storefronts provide functional navigation and indexable product and category URLs, while embedded stores may have URL, cart and account limitations.

Google Sites custom-domain setup is separate from the commerce provider’s domain setup. Google’s custom-domain guidance notes that a URL may already be used by another Google service, creating a conflict that must be resolved.

Publish the business name, contact method, shipping regions, processing times, returns and refunds, privacy terms, terms of service and digital-delivery or cancellation rules that apply to your business. Requirements vary by country, state, product and business model.
Configure shipping, local pickup, local delivery, appointment booking, digital delivery or manual fulfillment in the commerce platform. For example, Square documents shipping, pickup and local delivery settings for its online stores.
9. Test, publish and maintain the complete journey
Before launch, test the following in a private browser window and on a separate device:

- Variant selection, quantity changes and cart persistence
- Shipping, pickup and tax calculations
- Discount codes, payment failure and successful payment
- Order confirmation, seller notification and inventory reduction
- Refund and cancellation workflow
- Mobile layout, frame height and checkout pop-ups
- Customer account login, if offered
- Access while logged out of Google
After publishing, periodically repeat a low-value real or provider-supported test, update products and stock, review payment methods, renew domains, check policies and monitor broken embeds or provider changes.

Ecwid offers four practical routes: an embedded store widget, Buy Now buttons, a linked Instant Site and a store on a subdomain. Embedding keeps more of the shopping experience visually near the Google Sites content, but Ecwid documents possible customer-account login failures, cart resets, blank pages, constrained frames and URLs that do not change as shoppers browse.
Use a widget for a small, simple catalog only after testing the exact customer journey. Prefer the Instant Site, a dedicated storefront or a subdomain when customers need account login, reliable cart persistence, independent product URLs, mobile-friendly navigation or a polished checkout.
Payment links: the simplest implementation
- Create a product or service payment link with PayPal, Square or another provider.
- Describe the offer, price, currency, delivery terms and refund conditions on a Google Sites page.
- Add a clearly labeled Buy now, Pay or Book link using Insert → Embed or a normal button link.
- Confirm that the hosted checkout opens for visitors without a Google account.
- Define how you will match the payment to delivery, appointment scheduling or fulfillment.
This approach avoids cart configuration but does not become a full inventory or merchandising system. Payment processing fees may apply even when the provider does not charge a separate setup fee.

Troubleshoot common failures
The checkout is blank or does not appear
The provider may block iframe embedding, require a top-level window, have an incomplete merchant account or restrict the product by region. A browser extension or an unpublished Google Sites change can also interfere. Replace the embed with a direct checkout URL or navigation link.
The store is trapped in a small frame
Increase the embed height, try a full-page embed or move the store to a standalone storefront or subdomain. Internal scrolling and borders are common iframe trade-offs.
Customers cannot log in or the cart resets
Frame sessions, multiple tabs and provider restrictions can disrupt account and cart state. Send shoppers to the provider’s top-level store URL instead.
Products are difficult to share or find individually
An iframe may leave the browser at one Google Sites URL while customers browse many products. Use a dedicated storefront with product and category URLs when independent sharing, analytics or search visibility matters.

The owner can see content but visitors cannot
Check that the site is published, Drive files are shared publicly as intended, the commerce account is not in test mode and the provider allows the published domain. Test while logged out and from another device.
Tax or shipping is wrong
Google Sites does not calculate either. Review the commerce provider’s location, product, delivery and pickup rules, then obtain jurisdiction-specific professional advice where necessary.
Which setup should you choose?
- Payment links: best for one to five fixed-price offers, services, donations and manual fulfillment.
- Google Sites plus Ecwid: best for a small or medium catalog when keeping Google Sites for content is important and a separate store is acceptable.
- Square: best when online orders, local pickup or delivery and in-person Square sales need to work together.
- Shopify or another dedicated platform: best when e-commerce is the core business and the operation needs growth capacity, apps, staff controls or advanced analytics.
Avoid embedding a complex store when account login, persistent carts, crawlable product URLs or a smooth mobile checkout are essential. A link or subdomain usually removes more failure points than additional iframe tuning.
