Google’s Pixel 9 has a clearly documented seven-year update term; a matching Samsung support term was not established in the sources cited here. The price information below is historical context from 2024 and 2025, not a current quote.
What this comparison covers
This is a comparison of the base Google Pixel 9, a 2024 phone, and the base Samsung Galaxy S25—not the Pixel 9 Pro, Galaxy S25+ or Galaxy S25 Ultra. Specifications and availability can vary by market, so check the exact model and configuration sold where you live.

Which phone makes more sense for your budget?
Compare the price you can actually pay
Google’s $799 starting preorder price is a US launch figure from 2024, not today’s Pixel 9 price. Likewise, the 2025 description of US price parity and a somewhat higher S25 price in Europe is dated editorial context, not a live offer. Check both phones in the same country, at the same storage capacity, and in the same condition—new, refurbished or used—before deciding which is the better deal.

Compare the total you would pay, not only a headline discount. Account for taxes, delivery, trade-in conditions, carrier requirements and any charging accessory you still need. Offers can differ by retailer, carrier and region, and current prices and stock are not established here.
Factor in the Pixel charging requirement
Google says the Pixel 9’s wired charging rate of up to 27W is based on using its separately sold 45W USB-C charger, and actual charging may be slower. If you do not already own a suitable charger, include that accessory’s cost when comparing what each phone would cost you to set up. The cited information does not establish an equivalent Galaxy S25 charging comparison.

How much weight should you give the update promise?
Google states that Pixel 9 updates run for seven years from the date the model first became available on the Google Store in the US. That is Google’s stated support term, and the start point matters: it is not a promise of seven years from your personal purchase date.
The sources cited here do not establish a corresponding official Galaxy S25 support duration. That does not show that Samsung offers less support; it means a like-for-like duration ranking cannot be made from these sources. Before choosing on longevity, check Samsung’s current official commitment for the exact S25 model and market you are considering.

Does size or camera use favor one?
Display size
The listed diagonals differ by 0.1 inch: Google specifies 6.3 inches for the Pixel 9, while GSMArena lists 6.2 inches for the Galaxy S25. Both are listed at 120Hz. That small size difference may matter if you have a strong preference for grip or pocket fit, but the figures alone do not establish which screen looks better. If possible, handle both models in person.
Camera
GSMArena’s comparison covers camera specifications, but the information cited here does not include controlled side-by-side photographs or a quantified camera test. Specifications alone are not enough to name a universal photo winner. If camera performance is a deciding factor, look for comparative samples from the kinds of scenes you photograph—such as people, moving subjects or low-light scenes—and consider which results you prefer.

What about performance, battery life and ecosystem?
The sources cited here do not provide comparable controlled measurements of performance or battery life. If those are priorities, consult current tests that measure both phones using comparable methods rather than inferring speed or endurance from a component number or a general product claim.
For ecosystem fit, start with the devices and services you already rely on: your watch, earbuds, apps, backups and other connected devices. The information here does not quantify ecosystem lock-in or user satisfaction, so it cannot establish that Google’s or Samsung’s setup is objectively better. Check compatibility for the specific accessories and services that matter to you.

Pixel 9 or Galaxy S25—which should you buy?
- Give the Pixel 9 serious consideration if Google’s documented seven-year update term is important to you, and its current price and size suit your needs.
- Consider the Galaxy S25 if you prefer Samsung’s interface, services or an existing Galaxy setup. Verify its official support commitment for your market before treating support duration as a deciding advantage.
- Wait to make a price-led decision until you have comparable, current offers for both phones. The available price references are dated, and a launch price or a 2025 price comparison does not tell you which one is cheaper in your market today.
For a camera, battery or performance verdict, use recent, comparable tests or samples; the cited specifications and editorial comparison do not establish a controlled winner in those areas.
