Goodman’s A$4 Billion Raise: What the US$2.6 Billion Figure Means

Goodman’s February 2025 placement was A$4.0 billion, or about US$2.6 billion in a contemporaneous report. The proceeds supported data-centre and logistics growth, working capital, debt repayment, and balance-sheet flexibility.

Goodman Group announced a fully underwritten A$4.0 billion institutional placement in February 2025. The “US$2.6 billion” figure was the approximate conversion used in a contemporaneous Data Center Knowledge report—not the currency amount in Goodman’s announcement. Goodman also offered eligible securityholders a separate purchase plan of up to A$400 million.

What Goodman raised in February 2025

The main transaction was a fully underwritten pro rata institutional placement to raise A$4.0 billion, as described in Goodman’s 1H25 results announcement. Data Center Knowledge reported the planned amount on February 21, 2025, as approximately US$2.6 billion. The difference is currency denomination, not a second or competing estimate of the placement’s announced size.

Goodman separately offered eligible securityholders a non-underwritten security purchase plan of up to A$400 million. That was a distinct offer from the institutional placement; the company’s announcement did not describe it as part of the fully underwritten A$4.0 billion placement.

Financing Amount and currency Type and date
Institutional placement A$4.0 billion; reported by Data Center Knowledge as approximately US$2.6 billion Fully underwritten pro rata placement announced in February 2025
Security purchase plan Up to A$400 million Separate, non-underwritten offer for eligible securityholders announced in February 2025

What Goodman said the proceeds would fund

Goodman described the proceeds as supporting the Group’s share of working-capital needs and its broader growth and capital-management plans. Data-centre development was one named use, but the entire placement was not described as ring-fenced for data centres.

The announcement said proceeds would first repay debt and enhance liquidity for future development and acquisition opportunities. It also identified these intended uses:

  • Working capital for commencing and continuing data-centre projects.
  • Progressing other data-centre and logistics growth opportunities.
  • Flexibility to pursue long-term ownership structures.
  • Maintaining gearing and liquidity within the Group’s target range.

Goodman Group Chief Executive Officer Greg Goodman described the strategic rationale in the 1H25 announcement: “Goodman’s strategy of providing essential infrastructure for the digital economy – both through our logistics facilities and data centres – has set a strong foundation for the growth we expect to see by executing the global data centre opportunity before us.”

What later data-centre figures show—and what they do not

In results released on February 18, 2026, for the half year ended December 31, 2025, Goodman reported a global data-centre power bank of 6.0 GW, up by 1.0 GW. The company split that figure into 3.6 GW of secured power and 2.4 GW in advanced stages of procurement. The two categories are not equivalent: some power was secured, while the rest was still in advanced procurement.

In the same release, Goodman forecast that it would have more than A$14 billion of data-centre projects in work in progress by June 2026. The forecast applied to projects on sites with secured power and owned by Goodman or its partnerships. It was a company expectation made in February 2026, not a reported June outcome; the cited material does not establish whether that forecast was subsequently achieved.

A later Hong Kong partnership raise is a different transaction

Goodman’s announcements index lists a September 15, 2026 announcement titled “Goodman raises US$455 million of equity for the Goodman Hong Kong Data Centre Partnership.” That is later partnership-level financing. It is not the February 2025 Group placement, and it does not show that the original placement was wholly allocated to Hong Kong or entirely to data centres.
