Global Airlines announced on February 2, 2024, that it had taken full ownership and title of its first aircraft, an Airbus A380 identified as MSN120. The company said the aircraft would fly under Malta registration 9H-GLOBL. It later reported that the A380 arrived at Glasgow Prestwick Airport on May 1, 2024, while work toward commercial operations continued.
Which Airbus A380 did Global Airlines take ownership of?
The aircraft is MSN120, registered as 9H-GLOBL. In its February 2, 2024 announcement, Global said it had taken full ownership and title. The company also described inspections and return-to-service checks involving Business Class Aviation and Hi Fly; those details are the airline’s account, not independent inspection findings. CEO and founder James Asquith said at the time: “Purchasing an aircraft takes a phenomenal amount of time, and over the past year, we, with support from partners, have been putting the building blocks in place to take full ownership of the aircraft and plan its first flight.”
Where did the aircraft go after the ownership announcement?
Global reported that 9H-GLOBL arrived at Glasgow Prestwick Airport at 17:00 BST on May 1, 2024, after a journey from Mojave. The airline said a complete interior refurbishment and further maintenance would take place at Prestwick. Asquith said the arrival put the airline in a position to take further steps toward operations, after uncertainty over whether the aircraft would leave the United States. This described the company’s progress at that point, not confirmation that the aircraft was ready for scheduled passenger service.
What has Global reported about the aircraft’s flights?
Global’s homepage says that since May 2024 the A380 completed 20 test, repositioning and customer flights. The company also describes flights to New York JFK from Glasgow and Manchester in May 2025, operated by Hi Fly. The reported customer flights should not be treated as proof that Global began scheduled passenger service. The company characterizes the activity as test, repositioning and customer flights, and identifies Hi Fly as operator of the May 2025 flights.
