Why the probate report does not confirm the $120 million estimate
A 2017 MyNewsLA.com report on the probate proceeding said Frey’s will identified $100,000 in assets and named a family trust that may have held most of his financial holdings. The report did not state the trust’s value or provide a complete inventory of assets.

Those details measure different things: the $100,000 figure is the assets listed in the will, while the trust’s holdings were not valued in the report. Neither establishes the total value of Frey’s estate, and the will-listed amount should not be treated as the whole estate or directly compared with the $120 million estimate as though both figures measure the same assets. The report says Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William Barry admitted the will to probate and appointed Cynthia Millican Frey executor; it also says the couple had been married 25 years and had three children. Frey co-founded the Eagles with Don Henley in 1971, performed and wrote songs with the band, and also released solo albums, including No Fun Aloud (1982) and Strange Weather (1992), according to the Los Angeles Times.
