The arrangement also involved marketing and live events, according to the Associated Press. Kalshi said his equity stake was below 1% and that he would be barred from trading on NBA-related markets; those details were reported by news outlets, not disclosed as an exact ownership percentage or an independently audited enforcement record.
What does Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Kalshi investment mean?
It makes the Milwaukee Bucks star a minority shareholder and a marketing and live-event partner of Kalshi. It does not mean he owns a large or controlling part of the company, nor does the announcement establish that he traded on a market connected to the NBA.
Antetokounmpo announced the investment in a social post on February 6, 2026: “The internet is full of opinions. I decided it was time to make some of my own.” He added, “Today, I’m joining Kalshi as a shareholder.” The Associated Press reported the announcement on February 7 and said the arrangement included help with marketing and live events. In the same release, Antetokounmpo said he liked Kalshi’s markets and had been checking them often. That statement and the commercial partnership help explain why the investment attracted attention beyond a routine celebrity endorsement.

How much of Kalshi does Giannis own?
The Block reported that Kalshi said Antetokounmpo’s stake was below 1%. That is an upper bound, not an exact disclosed percentage; the available reporting does not specify the number or terms of his shares. The Block
When was the deal signed?
The announcement date and signing date are different. Antetokounmpo announced the investment on February 6, 2026. The Block reported that the agreement had been signed on Thursday, February 5—the day of the NBA trade deadline. Keeping those dates distinct matters because the public announcement came after the period when Kalshi had promoted markets related to a possible Antetokounmpo trade.

Can Antetokounmpo trade on NBA markets?
The Associated Press reported that Kalshi said Antetokounmpo would be forbidden from trading on markets related to the NBA. The report describes the company’s stated restriction; it does not independently establish how the restriction was monitored or enforced.
Kalshi offers event contracts tied to future outcomes. The AP explained that contract prices range from $0 to $1 and reflect what traders are willing to pay, which can be read as the market’s perceived probability of an outcome. That description is not a definitive legal classification for every U.S. state. The available reporting does not establish state-by-state availability or legal treatment.

Why did the partnership raise sports-integrity questions?
In the days before the trade deadline, Kalshi promoted contracts on whether Antetokounmpo would be traded and which teams might be contenders for him. The public announcement of his investment followed the deadline and the reported signing came on its day. That overlap created an obvious question about the appearance of a conflict: the athlete became a company shareholder after markets had focused on his own possible trade.
The Block also reported that the NBA’s assistant general counsel asked the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in May 2025 for regulatory provisions addressing integrity risks, after Kalshi began offering NBA moneyline and spread markets. These events provide context for the scrutiny, but they do not show that Antetokounmpo traded, influenced a market, or violated a rule. The Block

What broader trading restrictions did Kalshi later report?
On March 23, 2026, Axios reported that Kalshi planned to prevent professional and collegiate sports participants from trading on their own teams or leagues, and political candidates from trading on their campaigns.
