General Catalyst Leads $200 Million Investment in Bilt at $3.1 Billion Valuation

General Catalyst led a $200 million equity investment in Bilt announced on January 24, 2024, at a stated company valuation of $3.1 billion. That was the valuation for the 2024 financing—not a current valuation. The round also included Eldridge and existing investors Left Lane Capital, Camber Creek, and Prosus Ventures.

What Bilt announced

Bilt said General Catalyst led the equity investment, with significant contributions from Eldridge and participation from existing investors Left Lane Capital, Camber Creek, and Prosus Ventures. Bilt announced the $200 million investment and $3.1 billion valuation on January 24, 2024. Bilt’s announcement said the valuation was more than double the company’s October 2022 financing valuation; TechCrunch’s contemporaneous report also described it that way.

Ken Chenault, then General Catalyst’s chairman and managing director, became chairman of Bilt’s board. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell joined as an independent director. The investment was intended to fund Bilt’s expansion, rather than announce a new card product.

What the investment was meant to fund

At the time of the round, Bilt described itself as a rent and neighborhood rewards platform. Its model connected renters and property owners with local merchants, with points available through rent and everyday neighborhood spending. Bilt said it planned to expand its residential property alliance across multifamily, single-family, and student housing, grow its neighborhood rewards program, and develop rewards for mortgage payments. These were the company’s stated plans in January 2024, not a guarantee that each expansion had been completed.

Bilt founder and CEO Ankur Jain described the ambition as “not just building a loyalty program” but creating a community-focused ecosystem for renters and local businesses. That was the company’s framing of the investment’s purpose, not an independent assessment of its results.

How the $3.1 billion figure fits Bilt’s funding timeline

Date Financing or company-reported milestone What the figure means
January 24, 2024 $200 million investment led by General Catalyst; Bilt stated a $3.1 billion valuation. The valuation attached to this financing announcement. Source: Bilt.
August 1, 2024 Bilt announced a separate additional $150 million round led by Teachers’ Venture Growth and said annual platform spend had surpassed $30 billion. A subsequent financing and a company-reported operating figure; neither changes what the January round was valued at. Source: Bilt.
July 2025 A secondary funding database reported a $250 million round at a $10.75 billion valuation. This figure is not confirmed by a primary company announcement in the available sources, so it should not be treated as an established Bilt valuation. Source: Multiples.

Bilt’s January 2024 announcement also said the company achieved EBITDA profitability in 2023 and had annualized member spend nearing $20 billion. Those are historical company-reported figures; the cited announcement does not present them as audited results.

Why $3.1 billion is not a current valuation

A financing valuation is tied to a particular transaction and date. Bilt subsequently announced another round in August 2024, and its January 2024 announcement page now warns that some details are outdated following the launch of Bilt Card 2.0 in January 2026. The $3.1 billion figure accurately describes Bilt’s stated valuation for the January 2024 investment, but it should not be presented as the company’s current valuation.

Bilt’s CEO described a broader housing-focused membership in a March 2026 company letter. The letter said Bilt’s network covered one in four U.S. rental buildings and cited more than $2 trillion in annual U.S. housing spending. Those are Bilt-reported claims, not independently established measures. They describe the company’s later positioning and operating context; they do not establish a new valuation.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish

  • It establishes: Bilt announced a $200 million equity investment led by General Catalyst on January 24, 2024, and stated a $3.1 billion valuation for that financing.
  • It identifies: Eldridge and existing investors Left Lane Capital, Camber Creek, and Prosus Ventures as participants, alongside General Catalyst.
  • It does not establish: Bilt’s current valuation. Later valuation claims need to be tied to a dated financing or other reliable, clearly identified basis.
  • It does not independently verify: company-reported metrics such as profitability, member spend, or network coverage. Attribute those figures to Bilt when using them.
