What Gem Security announced
In its September 27, 2023 announcement, Gem Security said GGV Capital led the $23 million Series A. IBM Ventures, Silicon Valley CISO Investments (SVCI), angel investors, and existing investor Team8 also participated. Gem described the round as oversubscribed; that characterization came from the company.

Gem described its product as a purpose-built Cloud Detection and Response (CDR) platform for detecting, investigating, and containing cloud-native threats. The company said the platform supported AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Kubernetes, and integrated with security operations tools including SIEM/SOAR and CSPM, along with identity providers, ticketing systems, source code repositories, and secrets managers.

Those capabilities and goals are Gem’s descriptions, not results from independent product testing. The announcement presented multi-cloud visibility and cloud-native forensics as part of its approach to shortening the time needed to detect, investigate, and contain threats.
Why the company said it raised
Gem framed the financing as a way to accelerate momentum for its CDR product. In a contemporaneous TechCrunch report and interview, co-founder and CEO Arie Zilberstein said the timing reflected both market opportunity and a desire to grow faster. The available announcements did not specify how the proceeds would be allocated.

Gem’s release attributed two market figures to Google Cloud’s 2023 State of Cloud Threat Detection and Response Report:
- Organizations had an average of 65% of their infrastructure in the cloud.
- 72% of organizations leveraged multiple clouds.
These figures are presented as Gem attributed them to Google Cloud’s report; they were not independently verified here.

The announcement documents a 2023 financing event and Gem’s business description at that time. It does not establish the company’s present ownership, operating status, product availability, or current customers. Nor does the funding amount by itself show that Gem’s product outperformed alternatives or that the company has achieved a particular business outcome.
