GDC’s State of the Game Industry survey is a separate measure of developers’ views, not a count of conference visitors. Its 2024 landing page says more than 3,000 developers were surveyed and highlights concerns about generative AI and layoffs, as well as game adaptations and accessibility. Among the page’s findings, four in five surveyed developers had ethical concerns about generative AI, 56% were worried about future layoffs, 26% of AAA developers said their games were being adapted into movies or shows, and games with accessibility measures had increased 26%.
