CDKeys is now Loaded: the company announced the rebrand in August 2025, with the change beginning in September. It still describes its service as selling digital game codes and related products. Whether a listing is a good deal depends on more than its headline price: check the exact game edition, platform, region, and refund eligibility before buying.
What a digital game key is—and how it differs from a game purchase on Steam
A game key is an electronic activation code. The retailer delivers it digitally, and you redeem it on the relevant platform before downloading the game. Loaded describes delivery by email or through your account page, with redemption on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo. Those are the retailer’s service descriptions, not independent verification of service quality.

A third-party key purchase is also distinct from buying directly through a platform. For example, Steam says it cannot refund purchases made outside Steam, including third-party CD keys. If an issue arises with a key bought from a retailer, the retailer—not Steam—is the relevant point of contact.
Is CDKeys legit, and what does its rebrand mean?
The company announced on August 26, 2025, that the CDKeys name would change to Loaded starting in September 2025. Loaded’s September 1, 2026 anniversary post marks a year since the change. The company said its focus on discounts, digital delivery, and games for different platforms would continue. Look for Loaded when visiting the store, while recognizing that CDKeys remains the familiar former name.

“Legit” can mean different things: whether the store is operating under its current name, whether a particular code works with your account, or whether the retailer will resolve a problem. The company’s own pages describe its business and policies, but that alone does not independently establish its sourcing, security, customer outcomes, or the value of any specific offer.
Loaded’s blog also observes that more publishers are moving from key redemption to direct platform redemption. That is the company’s observation, not a quantified market-wide finding. Follow the delivery and redemption instructions shown for the individual product.

How to check that a key will work for you
Do not assume a key is global or compatible simply because the game title matches. Steam says restrictions vary by publisher and advises buyers to ask the retailer about a key’s restrictions. Loaded labels product regions—including Worldwide, EU, UK, and US—and says the product’s region must match both the buyer’s location and account.
- Confirm the platform. Check whether the listing is for the platform you use, such as Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo.
- Match the edition. Verify the exact version or bundle. A lower-priced standard edition is not a like-for-like comparison with a deluxe edition.
- Check the region. Read the region on the specific listing and confirm it works with your location and account. If the listing is unclear, ask the retailer before purchasing.
- Read the activation instructions. Confirm where the code is redeemed and whether the listing describes a code or another form of delivery.
If you receive a key that appears restricted to another territory, Steam advises contacting the seller. Platform support and retailer support have separate roles; Steam will not refund a third-party key purchase.

How to compare game deals without being misled by the headline price
Compare the same game, platform, and edition across stores, then check the current total price and the conditions attached to each listing. A lower price is not a real saving if the code cannot be activated on your account or if it is for an edition you do not want.
- Compare matching platform and edition.
- Check the listing’s region and account compatibility.
- Include the current total price rather than comparing a headline figure alone.
- Understand delivery and redemption steps.
- Review the refund rules before revealing the code.
CDKeys’ FAQ has stated that customers save approximately £18 / $21 / €20 per purchase. That is the retailer’s own estimate; the FAQ does not establish a methodology or independent confirmation. No like-for-like current price comparison is available here, so treat any claimed saving as something to verify against matching live listings rather than a guaranteed discount.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
How to activate a key
First retrieve the code using the delivery method stated on the order—Loaded says codes may be delivered by email or shown on the account page. Then redeem it on the platform specified by the listing. Exact menus can differ by platform and may change, so use the platform’s current redemption instructions rather than assuming one universal activation path.
- Check the listing again for platform, edition, and region before revealing the key.
- Retrieve the code from the specified email or account page.
- Open the relevant platform’s current code-redemption flow and enter the key as instructed.
- Confirm the product appears on the intended account before downloading it.
What is the refund policy?
Loaded’s support page says a refund request may be made within seven calendar days if the key has not been revealed, redeemed, or activated. Requests are reviewed individually, so a request is not a guarantee of a refund. Check the current policy before purchase, and do not reveal or redeem the key if you may need to request one.

- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Steam says it cannot refund a purchase made outside Steam, including a third-party CD key. For a third-party purchase problem, contact the retailer and follow its current support process.
