Spirit stopped flying in May 2026, so it no longer has a comparable active operating fleet.
How many aircraft do Allegiant and Frontier have?
| Carrier | Passenger or operating fleet count | As of | What the count includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Allegiant | 171 | June 30, 2026 | Passenger-service aircraft, including aircraft identified in the company table as Sun Country aircraft; excludes a separate 22-aircraft cargo fleet. |
| Frontier | 165 | June 30, 2026 | All Airbus single-aisle aircraft in its fleet. |
| Spirit | No active operating fleet after cessation | Stopped flying in May 2026 | The Associated Press, citing court filings, reported 114 Airbus A320-family aircraft among Spirit’s assets at closure. That is an asset count, not a count of aircraft still operating for Spirit. |
On the same-date passenger-fleet comparison, Allegiant’s disclosed count was six aircraft higher than Frontier’s. Allegiant’s 2026 second-quarter Form 10-Q lists 77 Airbus A320s, 28 Airbus A319s, 19 Boeing 737 MAX 8200s, 44 Boeing 737-800s identified as Sun Country aircraft, and three Boeing 737-900ERs identified as Sun Country aircraft. Its separate 22 Boeing 737-800s in cargo service are not included in the 171 passenger-service total. Allegiant’s second-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q.
Frontier’s 165 aircraft comprised 72 A320neos, six A320ceos, 21 A321ceos, and 66 A321neos. Frontier said all were financed through operating leases. Frontier’s second-quarter 2026 results.
Why Spirit is not ranked alongside the two active fleets
Spirit ceased flying in May 2026. The 114 Airbus A320-family aircraft reported among its assets at closure describe property remaining in the company’s possession, not an operating fleet carrying passengers under Spirit service. The Associated Press report is based on court filings: Associated Press coverage of Spirit’s shutdown.

Why fleet counts can change
These figures are dated snapshots, not a live count for October 2026 or a guarantee of today’s fleet. Frontier reported that it took delivery of six aircraft and returned 24 A320neos during the second quarter of 2026. It also said one A321neo delivery planned for that quarter moved to the third quarter, with six deliveries expected in Q3; expected deliveries are plans, not aircraft already counted in the fleet. The company had announced the early-return agreement with AerCap in February 2026. Frontier’s Q2 2026 release and February 2026 AerCap announcement.
For a fair comparison, match reporting dates and definitions. A passenger-service count should not be combined with cargo aircraft, stored aircraft, or a former airline’s remaining assets. Company tables may also identify aircraft operated for or associated with another carrier, as Allegiant’s table does with the Sun Country aircraft.
