It lists names, addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers and Freedom account numbers as accessed; it says payment information and passwords were not affected. Freedom has not published a numeric count of affected customers.
What happened and when
According to Freedom Mobile’s March 18, 2026 notice, the company detected unauthorized activity in its customer account-management platform during January 12–18, 2026. Its investigation determined that a third party used a subcontractor’s credentials to reach some customers’ personal information. The incident window and the date Freedom published its notice are separate dates.
Freedom says it disabled the compromised third-party account, reviewed its processes and controls for third-party access, and is monitoring affected accounts for unusual activity. These are the company’s reported actions and findings; they are not independently verified forensic conclusions.
What information Freedom says was accessed
The March notice lists the following personal information:

Freedom says payment information and passwords were not affected. It also says it has no indication that the accessed information was misused, while advising customers to remain vigilant.
How many customers were affected?
The public March notice describes “some” customers but gives no numeric count of affected customers or notified accounts. That number is unknown from the notice; the absence of a published figure does not mean the number was zero. Freedom says the update applies to people who received an email or text from the company on March 18, 2026. Its notice page states: “If you didn’t receive an email or text from us on March 18, 2026, this update doesn’t apply to your account.” Treat this as the company’s stated notice-page condition, not as an account-status check independently verified for an individual.

What customers who received a notice should do
- Be cautious with unexpected emails or texts asking for personal information or directing you to a website.
- Do not click suspicious links or download unexpected attachments.
- Check your Freedom account and other relevant accounts for unusual activity.
- If a message claims to be from Freedom, use the company’s official website or contact page rather than links or phone numbers in the message.
Freedom’s notice says: “Freedom Mobile will never ask you for personal information such as credit card numbers, banking information, passwords, or PIN codes by email or SMS.”
For questions, use Freedom’s official contact page, reached by typing its web address yourself. The page lists live messaging and support by phone at 611 from a Freedom phone or 1-877-946-3184 within North America; it lists support hours as 8 a.m.–1 a.m. Eastern time, seven days a week. Channels and hours can change, so confirm them on the page.

Freedom’s stated privacy options
Freedom’s privacy policy, updated January 1, 2026, says Videotron Ltd. does business as Freedom Mobile and that its policy is established in accordance with PIPEDA. The policy describes options to ask for access to personal information, request corrections, and ask for removal, subject to legal, regulatory and business requirements. It lists the Chief Privacy Officer and [email protected] as a privacy contact. These are the company’s stated policy options, not legal advice about any individual case.
Freedom’s incident notice also links to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre for general information about fraud and protection. The sources cited here do not establish a case-specific finding by that agency.

A separate Freedom disclosure in December 2025
Freedom also issued an earlier, separate notice dated December 3, 2025, about unauthorized activity detected October 23, 2025, in the same customer account-management platform. An archived copy of that notice attributes the access to a third party using a subcontractor account, describes the affected group as a “limited number,” and says suspicious accounts and corresponding IP addresses were blocked. The archived copy lists names, home addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers and Freedom account numbers; it does not list email addresses for that earlier incident. It says payment information and passwords were unaffected. The copy gives no numeric affected-customer count. These details belong to the December disclosure and should not be combined with the January 2026 incident’s timeline or data list.
