The rating improved, but the valuation target moved lower—a mixed signal, not a straightforwardly bullish revision.
What Freedom Broker reportedly changed
Secondary reports from Investing.com, StreetInsider and Benzinga said Freedom Broker analyst Georgy Vashchenko moved Nike’s rating from Sell to Buy on October 2, 2026. The same reports put the new target at $51, down from $54.
Those are two different judgments: a rating category and a price target. The reported Buy rating is more favorable than Sell, but the lower target signals a reduced valuation estimate. The reporting does not establish the target’s time horizon or the assumptions behind it, so it cannot support a calculation of expected return.
Why the reported upgrade came with a lower target
Investing.com linked the rating change to operating challenges: weaker-than-expected first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue, a sharp deterioration in Greater China, and continued pressure in EMEA. Its account also said Nike management acknowledged further work was needed in NIKE Sportswear, Jordan Brand and Greater China. These explanations come from secondary coverage; the original Freedom Broker note was not available to verify the full thesis.

- Mesh on upper adds breathability.
- Flywire cables provide a supportive feel when you tighten the laces.
- Plush foam midsole cushions each step.
- Grooves on the rubber outsole help your foot move naturally.

The reported combination is possible because an analyst can become more constructive about a company’s direction or prospects while lowering the valuation assigned to it. In this case, the available coverage describes an upgrade amid a difficult operating picture, not a claim that Nike’s near-term results had improved.
How Nike’s Pace reset fits into the coverage
Investing.com described Pace as an operating-model transformation intended to accelerate Nike’s Sport Offense strategy, raise organizational productivity and simplify its global structure. StreetInsider reproduced additional figures from analyst commentary. They should be treated as reported figures, not independently verified company guidance:

- Mesh on upper adds breathability.
- Foam midsole delivers a soft ride.
- Flex grooves create a cushioned effect for your run.
- Waffle outsole is a made of a durable, flexible material that helps keep you on the move.

- About $1.0 billion in pretax implementation charges through fiscal 2031.
- About $0.3 billion in severance costs recognized in fiscal 2026, with about $0.3 billion of additional charges expected in fiscal 2027.
- A high-single-digit revenue decline expected for fiscal 2027 and about 400 basis points of revenue pressure in the second quarter.
StreetInsider also reported that management planned a more detailed strategic and financial update at an investor day in November. The figures and timing above are reproduced from secondary reporting and were not independently checked against a Nike filing or official investor-relations release.

The reported action is a Sell-to-Buy upgrade paired with a target cut from $54 to $51. The available reports do not establish Freedom Broker’s valuation method, forecast assumptions, target horizon or complete rationale. Nor do they provide a consistent, sufficiently authoritative contemporaneous share-price and analyst-consensus snapshot. It would therefore be misleading to infer implied upside or say the call was above or below consensus based on these reports alone.

There is also a rating-history inconsistency in the secondary coverage. StreetInsider reproduces an analyst sentence that says, “We lowered our price target to $51 while upgraded our rating to Buy from Hold.” That wording conflicts with its own article lead and with the Sell-to-Buy description reported by Investing.com and Benzinga. Without the original note, the discrepancy cannot be resolved; the quoted sentence should not be treated as confirmation that the prior rating was Hold.
